Went to go and see an extended version of GBU at Leeds Town Hall last Friday. Only bits I hadn't seen were where Tuco has the chicken (?) and meets his bandoleros in the cave.

Anyone else see it, thought it was a pretty good print and enjoyable as always. Three-hour version I believe...

GBU being shown on Five tonight in UK. But no widescreen. The cretins. Ive seen GBU on ITV (idiots), Channel 5 (idiots), and only the enlightened types on Channel 4 have shown it in widescreen. Bloody pan and scan.

Just wondered if anyone knew who was behind the Ecstasy of Gold remix. Its played widely on adverts and other "scenes of suspension" on British TV, as you'd expect from a Morricone-Leone score.

i think u guys are missing the point somewhat. To me the points seems to be its not as black and white as the good winning and the bad losing, after the Dollars Trilogy its always something of a pyhrric victory: Harmonica has no place in the world, Juan's lost his whole family, and Noodles is a withered old man with his memories. I think Leone's message is winning, but at a huge cost.

unforgiven is definitely overrated and not in the same league as GBU. end of story. lol

mmm, the problem is that Leone had a different composer for The Colossus of Rhodes, his first film, Angelo Francisco Lavagnino. Cant remember how shoddy the score was tho...

Have just got a new cd of Morricone`s work with the director Tornatore, who is also an excellent director (Cinema Paradiso, Legend of 1900 etc) Got me thinking that Morricone`s best work albeit arguably and i do not want to upset anyone was with Leone. they seemed to share a certain intangible understanding, having said that his stuff for Tornatore is top drawer. Other  directors seem to stick with one composer also Speilberg/Williams, Lynch/Badalamenti and our own Neil Jordan with Elliot Goldenthal. What  do members think of these special relationships and can one imagine anyone else other than Morricone working with Leone?

Yeah this is one of my favourite films. i agree it does drag slightly and the acting isnt great in places, but as a spectacle its wonderful. interestingly, one of my dads friends was the costume designer (though if anyone had any illusions no my familys not part  of a trendy movie crowd!!).

The music is very Morricone, and the shootouts are good as well, tho not IMO on a par with Leone's (though the reviewer on this website thinks Lyndon's are better)..

The character Manuel 'Cheyenne' Gutierrez was clearly intemded to be Mexican, i would argue when Robards played him that idea was shelved pretty swiftly as he is clearly not mexican. the only allusion i can think of is the references to Catholicism but that could mean anything.

i would imagine theres a simple reason why Colossus of Rhodes hasnt got a section; because its dogshite.

yeah i do think Moz (Morrissey) is a bit patchy, i like Your Arsenal and Vauxhall and I but dont think his other stuffs much cop, as they say.

Has anyone heard Ennio's contribution to Morrissey's new album, Ringleader of the Tormentors?

Morricone provides orchestration on 'Dear God Please Help Me', but i havent heard it in full ye, despite being a Smiths fan.
