LANCASTER NOT A VERY GOOD ACTOR?Huh? Are we watching the same performer, my friend? COME BACK LITTLE SHEBA! FROM HERE TO ETERNITY! SWEET SMELL OF SUCCESS! ELMER GANTRY! BIRDMAN OF ALCATRAZ! THE KILLERS! KISS THE BLOOD OF MY HANDS! THE RAINMAKER! SEVEN DAYS IN MAY! THE PROFESSIONALS! THE SWIMMER! ATLANTIC CITY! To name but a few! As the man himself might say A-HA-A-HA!  Smiley

Just watched FLYNN in a humdinger old school western called DODGE CITY! Great fun. It has one of the most amazing off the wall bar-room fights I've ever seen! A sense of zaniness that CORBUCCI could only dream of (and I like Corbucci). Dodge City is great craic (as we Irish say!) Wink

Forgot to mention the masterpiece written by JOSEPH McBRIDE; SEARCHING FOR JOHN FORD ; essential reading for students of the western. Also, check out JOHN FORD: THE COMPLETE FILMS (SCOTT EYMAN/PAUL DUNCAN)! HEAVEN FOR WESTERN BUFFS/FANS!

Just a question I want to pose to you guys: Is there any BETTER way to start off your weekend than with an inner-ear infection that leaves you virtually deaf in your right ear?

I don't think so, but I'm interested in hearing (pun not intended) other people's take on this.
How about passing the time with a viewing of DEAF SMITH and JOHNNY EAR(s)!  Wink

22  Other/Miscellaneous / Off-Topic Discussion / SUMMER READING..... on: August 06, 2005, 03:08:29 PM
Couple of books I can vouche for as a summer read. Grab a copy of GOAL DUST, the excellent biog of WOODY STRODE and as a co-read  JOHN WAYNE THE POLITICS OF CELEBRITY by GARRY WILLS, SUPERB! Also am half way into; HE RAN ALL THE WAY by ROBERT NOTT, a terrific account of JOHN GARFIELDS short but electric life! But the kicker for me this year, is the release of KATE BUFORDS stunning biog of BURT LANCASTER called BURT LANCASTER; AN AMERICAN LIFE!. Ah, nothing like a cold can and a fresh page!  Smiley

25  Films of Sergio Leone / Duck, You Sucker / Re: Bogdanovich on: August 03, 2005, 03:48:57 PM
Bogdanovich's TARGETS is a classic. First saw it in the late 60's/ early 70's as part of a double bill alongside NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD! That night scared the bejayzus out of me until.....THE EXORCIST rolled into town!
Check out his SAINT JACK (1979). Neat little character driven movie!

28  Other/Miscellaneous / Off-Topic Discussion / Re: ROD STEIGER on: July 24, 2005, 03:51:29 PM
MMMmmmm! And if yis' missed that one, check him out in THE BIG KNIFE (1955); AL CAPONE (1959); CONVICTS 4 (1962); IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT (1967) and the dreadfully underated W.C. FIELDS AND ME (1976). But, for me, apart from FISTFUL OF DYNAMITE, and early thread, ACROSS THE BRIDGE (1957), check him out in THE HARDER THEY FALL (1956). Ah, the man is gone.....but not forgotten!
