1  General Information / General Discussion / Re: Eli Wallach at the NFT on video 2006 on: July 15, 2011, 08:36:00 AM
I have found a little more footage of Eli talking films from the same event. It was a really good talk and Eli was very articulate and clearly passsionate about film and film making. As he talked there was footage of his various films playing and then they would discuss what they had viewed. Naturally there was plenty of talk about the Dollar films and working with Leone, most of which can be read in Eli`s excellent auto-bio The Good, the Bad and Me. I am going to put some footage on of Clint Eastwoods farmhouse accomodation in Carmel California which I recently stayed at. If any of the forum are visting California then a stay at Clint`s place is a must and Carmel is very smart too you can understand why Clint resides there. He does actually hang out sometimes in the bar and restaurant but sadly wasnt around when I stayed. Its called The Mission Ranch, Carmel and is well worth a stay. I will put some footage on youtube byt for now here is the link to some more of `Tuco` at the NFT.

2  General Information / General Discussion / Eli Wallach at the NFT on video 2006 on: July 13, 2011, 01:22:51 PM
I have uploaded a short video of when the legend Eli Wallach came to the NFT on the South Bank for a special viewing of The Good the Bad and the Ugly. Eli watched the whole film sat with the audience, together with his wife and then came on stage for a Q & A. I was fortunate enough to get to ask him a question which my good friend Richard recorded before nearly being ejected by the venue staff for filming my question! Eli was brilliant and answered questions and told anecdotes with great charm and wit, a true legend and I will never forget the experience. Please check the link to view the short clip and enjoy.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkEDuFE39ss

4  General Information / General Discussion / Re: Leone Locations Spain November 2007 Photo Album on: February 22, 2008, 02:32:09 AM
Great photos, does anyone have any pics of Sad Hill cemetry and details of it`s location. I went to Almeria 2007 and thought it was awesome and also poignant to think of the historic value of these locations etc that changed the face of the western. I  cant beleive that Almeria is not swarming with Leone fans, it`s a lovely town in in it`s own right and no tourists! Great food, people and places to visit. This book also is a must have not sure if it has already been referenced here. Spaghetti Westerns- The Good, the Bad and the Violent. 558 Eurowesterns and their personnel, 1961-1977. Its by Thomas Weisser and published by Mcfarland ISBN code is 0-89950-688-7. It is a hefty tome and a great reference tool if you spot an obscure film. It covers all the films ever made and does not give any more or less attention to Leone which is great. There were a good deal spanish made films produced before Leone got over there. It`s very informative and meticulously researched, often very funny too as it covers films that are dire to say the least but nonetheless are classed as eurowesterns. Enjoy guys and get to Almeria!!!!!!

6  General Information / General Discussion / Almeria Leone locations on: November 11, 2007, 12:05:28 PM
Cannot recommend Richard of Tuco Tours in Almeria enough for our recent trip visit the locations used by Leone and crew in the Almeria area. Stayed at the Gran Hotel Almeria a nice clean place and the same as used by the crew, Almeria itself is an unspoilt non-touristy city full of treasures like the train station used in FOD. Fantastic tapas at the Casa Peruga is without doubt one of the best food places you will visit in Spain and cheap too. Now for the really good bit the tours which Richard can tailor to your individual needs or interests. We did all the dollar film locations and there were lots without boring you some of these places are etched in your memory and on revisiting it is difficult not to both instantly recognise the location and also be moved. Richard is a thoughtful, knowledgable guy who has done the most thorough research. All locations are documented and proven and he has albums with him of then and now pics etc. To stand at Tucumcari is awesome, Cattle Corner (found a railway sleeper bolt from the original track) is great and there are too may highlights to list, notable are Father Ramirez`s Mission and the exact spot where Tuco cut the chains that tied him to Wallace. This is a blatant plug but visit TucoTours.com and go for yourself none of you will be disappointed and I will be returning, The Stevens ranch is eerily quiet and what struck me most when standing in the stone corrida from FAFDM was how the actors must have had to stand there in silence taking direction in such a quiet place whilst trying to convey the tension of a building climax which just shows all the more what genius Leone was. He knew what he was doing and what these scenes would convey with the Maestro`s music laid on the track. Go for it!

Check out TucoTours.Com. I am going in November and will review it when I return. Top site, nice people and intensively researched sites from all the films. Leone heaven.
8  General Information / General Discussion / Re: Anyone visited filming locations? on: June 03, 2007, 06:07:36 AM
Just booked for me and some friends to visit the Almeria sites with a firm called TucoTours.com. Check the site, very well researched and having spoken to the guy who runs it I cant wait to visit. They actually drive you in your hire car to the sites and have tons of info anecdotes etc. if nobody already has done so i will post a review but I am not going till November. They will also include locations of numerous other Almeria shot films like Lawrence of Arabia etc. We are staying in the same hotel that Leone used when the crew was in town, The Gran Hotel Almeria. You can even book the same room as him too!
9  General Information / General Discussion / Re: Morricone "Disappointed" by Honorary Oscar on: March 03, 2007, 12:08:13 AM
This teacher thing needs clearing up surely! Teaching is the (arguably) most noble profession one can have, passing on such important information to the younger generations. This teacher clearly needs taking to task and asked to explain how he can seriously consider himself qualified to teach at all if he refuses to acknolowledge the acheivements of Morricone. Perhaps he could come on-line and explain how he arrives at his conclusion! Here in the UK there is barely a day goes by without Morricones` influence being felt on TV, radio etc, sampling his music, parodying it, it is used on countless nature and holiday programmes...... I am sure Kubrick would have used his scores in their own right let alone employ him as composer, as he did with the classical musicians on 2001 etc. Morricone is iconic in that even the remotest peoples on this planet will recognise or will have heard of the motif from GBU.... but Newton Howard??? et al. This teacher needs naming and shaming and if he is truly a good honest decent man, and I am sure he is, he will acknowledge his mistake which is probably due only to ignorance. I do think however that we dishonour Morricone when we disrespect his colleagues, Williams is fantastic and if we had never had Morricone at all we would all be raving about him and Jarre so please lets not dis other composers unless of course we can do better ourselves!
10  General Information / General Discussion / Re: Morricone concert in New York City CANCELLED on: January 21, 2007, 04:58:18 AM
Cant think of anything more purile than this type of shit, especialy with the maestro being quite old I immediately feared some illness or even worse.....  less of this crap please i thought we had a moderator?HuhHuhHuhHuhHuh??
11  General Information / General Discussion / Re: Ennio to be honoured at Oscars 2007 on: December 15, 2006, 07:12:36 AM
I can whistle the tune to A Passage to India and I`m sorry but you have to respect Jarre who is a fantastic composer in his own right, his credits include Lawrence, Zhivago etc and though not as prolific as Morricone he deserves respect. Of course Morricone is the best and I would disregard any award by the Oscars board anyway as worthless!  Attended the recent London concert which got a fantastic review in the Sunday Mail Dec 10th edition, but was very sorry not to hear any of Tornatores film music, some of Morricones most notable music. That said the man was awesome and it was yet another unforgettable evening.
12  General Information / General Discussion / Re: Morricone Concert December on: December 09, 2006, 04:12:44 AM
just to add that the show on the friday was introduced by Jonathon Ross who gave a fantastic accolade and seemed genuinely privelidged to be there. An interesting point followed as he asked the audience to put their hands together for the Maestro but there was no sign of the man, the audience continued clapping but still no show! Eventually one of Morricone`s aides signalled to the perplexed Ross to leave the stage, which he did before Morricone strolled on. I have no doubts that Morricone did not want to share the stage with Ross, its that simple. Ross is a piss taker and has wasted many opprtunities on his shows with guests just so he can have a cheap laugh. i like to think that Morricone had been propped beforehand and simply refused to share the stage. I actually like Ross but he wastes good interview opprtunities, the Morrissey one recently was a crime!
13  Other/Miscellaneous / Ennio Morricone / Re: Ennio Morricone 19/7/06 London Concert on: November 19, 2006, 04:35:01 AM
Anyone suggest a venue where members can meet pre-concert on the friday of the concert, somewhere near to the Hammersmith appllo and some method of knowing who`s a member without wearing Poncho`s!
14  General Information / General Discussion / Re: New Leone Film on: November 18, 2006, 01:40:14 AM
Whilst I definately agree that the audience must share the experience I personally feel more enjoyment watching a film on my own. I have had too many spoiled films due to idiots constantly chattering or using mobile phones, I have even had people removed from the cinema. To watch GBU with an eager audience was a gift, magical even, especially since Eli was sat there too. It must have been fantastic to experience a film premiere of a Leone film, what a lasting memory! What did you think as you came out? What did you think having witnessed the awesome ecstacy of gold sequence?
15  General Information / General Discussion / New Leone Film on: November 16, 2006, 02:39:34 PM
Was interested to know what you guys think about this. Was lucky enough to watch the NFT screening of a new re-mastered print of GBU earlier this year. Having watched Leone films since I was young I was struck by the experience that this really was like watching a new film altogether on the big screen, as Leone framed and intended it, so many nuances to see and those lovely expansive shots made it seem so fresh again. What do you think, are we selling Leone short by watching DVD on relatively small tv screens? His films should be shown more often in cinema`s, but how?
