i dunno aaronson... i just can't see how anyone could have the godfather number 1... not to mention the godfather part 2 number 2... yet alot of people do... i just don't see it, and maybe it's because i'm not a fan of the genre.

as for the rest of the list... well done... i haven't seen a lot of them... but the ones i have seen are well placed... nice to see dr strangelove and the blues brothers getting some love.

If you see The Godfather just as a genre film, than, well I don't know what to say anymore...

i'm trying to find an excuse for you to love, what i believe to be a bad film. i don't really believe that there are genre films... there are plenty of movies that rise above and are enjoyed by both fans and haters of that genre... OUATIA is one of those... i hate the gangster genre... but i love ouatia, i'm just sorry that godfather can't do the same thing.

Masterful storytelling, some of the greatest actors the US has ever known giving one of their finest performances (Brando, Pacino and the underrated Cazale for example), great art direction, beautiful cinematography, what's not to love?

This really puzzles me: nobody mentioned "The Wild Bunch", yet Peckinpah always admitted that he was inspired by Leone and that without seeing Leone's movies, he couldn't have shot "The Wild Bunch"!!
C'mon guys, don't tell me I'm the only one who loves this movie (after Leone's of course): I'm sure it was just a massive oversight, right?
 
P.S. What about "Big Wednesday"? Nothing to do with Leone, yet in my humble opinion a very good movie.

David Aaronson, i have to admit i didnt get The Godfather's huge reputation straight away. i knew it was good but after the second viewing it hit me. I still dont think its as good as OUATIA, but then im biased.

As for The Wild Bunch, overrated. Good, but overrated. Another one's Unforgiven. Sure its good, but nowhere near the greatness of Leone. And people who say its Eastwood's greatest western cant have seen the Dollars Trilogy.

see the thing is i didn't just make a list off of the top of my head... the only movies on the list are the ones i've seen since i started making the list... i'm sure the wild bunch will be up there in the top 100 and i'm sure tootsie will be bumped out eventually or at least out of the top 150, i hope in about a year or so to be at 300... trying to make it about a new movie every day or so

Good points. I think our expectations of films plays a big part in how much we actually like them. A friend of mine who has almost identical taste in film bought the Wild Bunch on video, expecting it to be a little-above-average revisionist western, then started raving to me how it was his favourite non-spaghetti and almost a rival to Leone. He lent me the vid, and I watched it expecting it to be almost a rival to Leone and found it to be... a little-above-average revisionist western.
