Looks like the Cinematheque in Paris is going to show an original 35 mm print of COMIN' AT YA! in Stereoscopic 3-D!

Any news about London ?

Maybe you should give Alex Cox a bell about this FC! Smiley

What is the quality of this film? Is it worth seeing in any format other than 3-D?

My comments come from the new version (not the original stereoscopic or the awful Rhino dvd) that I was lucky enough to see recently and in 3-D.

For the Leone fan, it's a treat.
The first 13 minutes are silent and it takes its time to tell its story visually.
Set design is very nice (one of the few Italian Westerns that had a pretty big budget).
When not shoving something into the lense, Baldi knows where to point the camera.
Prairies, dunes, flat lands, cemeteries and ghost towns look wonderful in the 3-D environment and have a depth that you wouldn't get in the flat version (which I suppose is the appeal of the Cameron movie but that's a CGI landscape).

The 3-D is great!
Converting to digital is the best thing that could have happened to Comin' At Ya!.
No matter where you sit the effects follow you and they even managed to fix the "double vision" problem when something would get too close to the lense (a problem that I've heard of from old fans of the 81' release).

The added "noir" stuff, although nice to look at, is something of a distraction for me (I'm a traditionalist at heart) but the results of it have tested very positively amongst college students so it isn't going anywhere.

My only other complaint can be that it's too formulaic and doesn't have any real "surprises" that usually accompany a Tony Anthony western (although, I'd be hard pressed to find a sequence dedicated to bats and rats in any other Oater).

Overall, I was floored by how good the film looked and that the effects work perfectly.
Even some of the kitsch stuff works perfectly fine for todays standards as the film sets itself up as a fun experience and not to be taken seriously.

That isn't to say the film doesn't have a serious subject matter.
There is some very brutal violence in the film that isn't intended for kiddies.

This is a 3-D picture for adults (something that hasn't been capitalized upon in the recent 3-D boom) and a real fun time at the theatre.

Tony says, in early test screening of the new version, the audience participated with what transpires on screen.

EDIT:

Is the film worth watching in 3-D?
Sure, but not for repeated viewings I don't believe.
