In my opinion, I think DYS will never be released in any DVD format in America. The film is very unknown here in the states so if anyone Americans here are waiting for the Region 1 DVD of DYS ( like I am ), you might as well just get a region-free DVD player.

The laserdisc was released here earlier in the 90's.

according to a very reliable source...
The head of sony's retoration division does not want to release films over ten years old.

Why on Earth have a restoration division at all then? It's only films older than 20 years that need restoring in the first place. Doesn't make much sense.

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but this movie is currently on Comcast's free On Demand.

I honestly have no idea which version of the film it is; I didn't realize what a tortured history the film had until I caught the first 30 minutes last night on Comcast and fell in love with it.  I went online looking for a DVD, and I discovered what a mess it all is.

Right now, at the point in time, what's the best version of this film I can buy?  I don't have non-USs DVD player.

then currently you are not able to buy it at all. It does not have aan American dvd release yet(and wont for a long time).
You could just buy a region free dvd and get the Uk version(which is only cut by six seconds). This should only cost you $70.00 depending on where you look.

Then I'm VERY glad I bit the bullet and stayed up late to watch it on demand last night.  What a movie!  Definitely worth buying a new DVD player for.

It's a movie that needs to be watched repeatedly. There is more to be gleaned even after 20 viewings.

It seems like all three of Leone's second trilogy is like that where you can or need to watch all his movies several times.

I pick up something new everytime I watch OUATITW, the same with DYS, and though I'm not a huge fan of OUATIA I do appreciate what an epic movie it is.
