Sergio's imagination was right on for me at least! That's exactly what I thought the first time I saw that scene. Afro

this is an amazing video; without exaggeration, I get chills every time I watch this and hear Fonda saying "JESUS CHRIST IT'S HENRY FONDA!!!"

Prior to watching Leone films, I had hardly seen any "old" movies (I am 26 years old, so "old" basically means anything prior to the 1990's  Wink). It was only about a year-and-a-half ago -- after watching Leone films and reading in Frayling's books about all the classic films that influenced Leone -- that I began really watching old movies avidly.

So when I first saw OUATITW about about a year and a half ago, it was actually the first time I had ever seen Henry Fonda in my life. Therefore, I unfortunately could not appreciate the awesomeness of that moment when Fonda first appears. But now, after having seen many, many films with the great Fonda, I can totally relate to  "JESUS CHRIST IT'S HENRY FONDA!!!"   Smiley

the "actor friend of mine" that Fonda is referring to who advised him to accept the OUATITW gig was Eli Wallach. (Frayling has mentioned this)

It is a pity that Fonda never saw how west became the number one western
or maybe he he knew at the time
Everthing Fonda did in this movie was perfect.
The scene with Harmonica whilst whittling on a piece of wood is cinimatic perfection

Fonda's on record as calling Frank one of his favorite roles [citation needed]. I think he relished the chance to play such a nasty heavy.
