Hey guys, I stumbled on this this afternoon by searching for Angelo Novi photographs (he was Leone's still photographer) - there is an archive online where they have scanned a huge number of his original contact sheets and you can go through the photos online. There are literally thousands of photos there. I don't think this has been discussed here before?

When you click on the photos in the menu pages (yes 72 pages) you will notice a lot will open up to even more photos taken off of the same sheet.
for example:

http://cinestore.cinetecadibologna.it/fotografie_cinema/dettaglio/3057

Many are boring to sift through as they are shots of EVERYTHING, and they kept EVERY photo (even if it's just a shot of landscape or whatever) but there are some HUGE gems in here. First off, there are literally a HUNDRED shots of the deleted scene of Sam picking up Jill from the train. Basically every angle, shots of Leone filming it and BTS etc. You could pretty much reconstruct the whole thing. I did not see any more deleted scenes (although I started to skim after a few hundred shots - literally it will take you a full day or two to go through these) unfortunately the sheets don't cover the whole movie, just parts of it.

There are many many sheets of DYS (which I didn't look at too closely) and a huge amount for GBU, mostly covering Tuco and Wallace's train trip and the pitched bridge battle...sorry, no socorro! :(

It appears that you can also purchase copies of them if you want - expensive (cheapest is 15 euro) but I tried a couple just to see if it would work, the order form is in italian. I stumbled through it and then sent an email to them directly, will let you know if it works out.

This is where the OATITW photos start:

This is where the DYS photos start:

http://cinestore.cinetecadibologna.it/fotografie_cinema/ricerca_fotocinema/Tipo_cinema/Fotografo_Novi,%20Angelo/page_40/dim_10/ord_titolo/dir_0/page_41

This is where the gbu photos start:

Thanks for sharing. unfortunately I don't speak a word of Italian so I am finding it impossible to navigate the sight. Is there a separate link to the full archives of each indvidual film (other than the links you provided above the the GBU and OUATITW pics?

Thanks!

No unfortunately the catagories are listed by photographer, not film. You can also search under the actor names but the photos themselves haven't been well classified that way, so searching "eastwood" will get you ten pics where he's predominantly featured, but ignores many more where he is less the center of the frame.

awww shucks. I don't know what to click cuz I don't understand a word there. (26 years of living in Bensonhurst and I haven't learned a word of Italian. Shame on me  ;))

Happy to say that after a bunch of emailing back and forth to figure out the shipping and how to pay for it (ended up having to use an expensive wire transfer) and dealing with the fact I don't understand italian...I finally received the 4 8x12 photos and 1 Leone book I ordered from the museum, and I'm thrilled with the quality. I'll post a couple shots from the book when I have the chance, it has a ton of great unseen photos in the second part of the book which show Leone and his actors in the same pose.

These are the four photos I bought - the one with Eastwood (and Leone and Eli (wearing sunglasses) in the background) watching the football game is my favorite...

Thanks Jordan, cool pictures! Just out of curiosity, what is the title of the Leone book and who is the publisher? Is it in italian or english? Looking forward to getting this info and hopefully also your evaluation and a few photos of the book itself... O0

Can the book be had through amazon.it ? Could you give me author's name and title so that I can check?

Love to find out more on the book too!  O0

There's a few pictures I've never seen before on this page: http://monnomestpersonne1973.blogspot.com/, worth checking out.

This is the book here:

http://cinestore.cinetecadibologna.it/en/bookshop/dettaglio/30

Fairly cheap to buy...it is all in italian and is a companion piece to their exhibition, not sure if it would be available outside the museum...it's the only place I found that sold it and would ship it to Canada.

It is about half the size of a regular book and it's too tightly bound for me to scan any pics without wrecking it. But the pics are cool, 24 full page pics in all. A great one of Leone showing Robards how to grab Claudia's ass (directing):)
