I'm probably going to watch OUATITW (RESTORED, 175 min, Italian sound with English subs) and Colossus of Rhodes (also marked as restored but I'm not sure about that). I also try to make it to the Donati Q&A. Unfortunately it seems that I can't attend either of the OUATIA screenings which is a huge pity.

I've already seen FAFDM, GBU and DYS on the big screen. This would leave me with only OUATIA and AFOD as "unseen" - and I'll try to do everything I possibly can in order to see them also. As for the other SWs, I would be very interested to see them should I live in Helsinki - but I don't.

So I saw OUATITW on Saturday. It was advertised to have Italian soundtrack with English subs but instead it had English soundtrack with no subtitles. I was cool with that but I heard some people complaining that they couldn't understand all the dialogue (I practically knew all the lines anyway).

It was the "Scorsese restoration" AKA the BFI/Film Foundation/Rome Film Festival restoration, with the few new shots included. The print wasn't pristine but still excellent; no big scratches, some dirt but it was mostly in the both ends of the reels, as little grain as possible. The colors were mostly fine and pretty much the same as on the Paramount DVD. Only the red cliffs where Frank tackles Morton were maybe a bit too red, and some shots seemed to have more green than they have on the Paramount DVD.

A great experience indeed. It was the first time in like two years that I saw the movie, and even if I can't really claim that "only now I saw the film for the first time truly" I can't imaging that I would watch it again for a long time - not on DVD or BluRay anyway.

I also attended the Donati Q&A. It lasted about an hour and a half, concentrating mostly on his Leone Connection but also covering other SWs and some rather obscure films he wrote for Hollywood. He didn't really reveal anything game-changing but he claimed that the man standing on the young Harmonica's shoulders is in fact his father (though, Frank says to Harmonica [in the English dubbing]: "Keep your loving brother happy.") I'll try to elaborate on the Q&A if I can find the time. Also, if my audio recording of it turned out fine, I could upload it to YouTube or something like that.

I'm gonna go and see OUATIA next Saturday but it looks like I'll skip CoR although it does sound somewhat interesting (new restoration by the Bologna Cinematheque).

Hmmm, what does he say in the Italian dub? Maybe he doesn't specify the relationship. Italian speakers, anything to say?

That's funny. It is his brother too in the Italian version.

But in Germany, where the dub chnaged this line into something very different everybody had assumed that it was indeed his father. Me too for almost 25 years.

And I think it makes more sense that it is his father. Donati must be wrong or ...

Do you know if this will have English audio or not?

It's supposed to be "versione italiana" so I guess it has Italian audio (and hopefully some subtitles).

I assume that it just like on the Blu Ray included the Harmonica rising scene?

Yes. And I've never seen a version missing that scene.

I also saw OUATIA a couple of days ago and it was great as always. The print wasn't pristine (pretty heavily scratched towards the ends of reels) but mostly fine and the large format really revealed new details in the pictures (nothing dramatic, though).

And I never saw this scene in my first 20 years of OUTW watching.
