1. The Deer Hunter - my favorite movie for quite a while, probably still in my top 10. I like happier movies now.

Hence the famous phrase: "Happy like a PTA movie".

BR: is easily my favorite, though far from flawless its atmosphere and under-themes are unmatched. I find something new each time I watch it.
AN: is arguably one of the few best movies ever made and a movie I like more and more each time I see it. The ending is what it is, but everything that precedes is... life itself.
TDH: is third on this list and also a very dear movie to me. If AN is one of the greatest movies ever made, strictly speaking, TDH might be the greatest 'Nam movie ever made.
2001: hard to rate, but more than meets the eye.
CT: I really have never given it much though...

Excalibur and LLV are not bad but just don't belong here.

I stumbled on this old poll while looking for Leaving Las Vegas reviews. What the hell is this nice little film doing among adulated masterpieces? Did I miss something?

Anyway, I went with Blade Runner because it's the best non Leone film ever. Apocalypse Now is close second despite its failed ending. Then comes Chinatown, the only flawless film from the list, and The Deer Hunter. The following "big" films (2001 and Excalibur) are great but aren't in my top 20. Last comes leaving Las Vegas, that I quite appreciated but it feels like comparing Broken Flowers to The Godfather.
