Out of the Past (1947)

I recently watched the DVD of Out of the Past on a friend's laptop, and the movie looked like it had sort of a blue tinge to it. Then I brought it back home, stuck it into my blu-ray player and turned on the TV, and it looked normal. So, her laptop must have been causing the movie to have that slight blue tinge; something to bear in mind when talking about image quality and screencaps ? the system you watch it on has a large effect, too; the way a movie looks on Beaver's screencaps isn't necessarily the way it'll look when you watch it.

Anyway, I ordered the BRD of Out of the Past a little while ago, but just watched it now for the first time. I didn't watch the whole movie (cuz as I mentioned above, I watched it on DVD not long ago), but I just skipped around a few minutes here and there just to see the image quality. And I've gotta say I am very happy with it. The DVD, while not bad, certainly has plenty of speckles/damage marks, but the BRD really looks cleaned up. It is a noticeable improvement.

Looking around on YouTube, I found videos of Robert Osborne's introduction/afterword from a TCM screening of this movie in 2014. This screening was part of a salute to Rhonda Fleming, so his comments have an emphasis on Fleming. (BTW, Osborne has called this movie his favorite film noir.)

are you ok with the word "outro"? I don't like it.

I used to use the words "introduction" and "closing comments," but "closing comments" is kind of unwieldy; I needed one word. I was thinking of using "afterword," though that is generally for a book; I am not sure if it's correct to use for a video.

Then I saw some TCM users using "outro." I've never liked that word. I first heard it about 15 years ago, by a classmate of mine in a rock band. Many great rock songs have a great opening guitar piece, before the vocals begin, known as the "intro." My friend used to refer to the guitar piece that closes a song as the "outro"; that's the first time I heard that word (I see online that the word has been in use since the 70's.)

Well, "intro" is, of course, short for "introduction." So I guess the opposite of "in" is "out," so the opposite of "intro" is "outro," even though nobody ever says "outroduction"   I never felt comfortable with the word "outro." I definitely can't use "closing comments"; I need one word. I am not sure if "afterword" is too literary. "Outro" sounds kinda like crappy slang. Waddaya say? I have to go with either "intro" or "afterword," or find another word ... Or I can avoid this problem altogether by refraining from posting videos

Outro is fine. You need something short and catchy, closing comments is too long. Titles should be short.

And I've been into rock since the 70s, so I'm perfectly comfortable with "outro". It was probably the music of Jethro Tull that first introduced me to it. I think it's fine and can be used for things other than songs.
