My aim in movie buying at the moment to get hold of copies of all the "essential" spaghetti westerns. Question is, which ones are essential? I've currently got (other than the Leones, of course):

Django
Death Rides A Horse
Keoma
Bullet for the General
Companeros
Professional Gun
Texas Addio
Sabata
Django il Bastardo
La Resa dei Conti (hopefully in the post)

I'm on the lookout for:

Face to Face
Django Kill
My Name is Nobody
A Man Called Blade

Can anyone think of any others I should go for? I'm not really interested in the trinity films.

If ur not interested in Trinity films then id think twice about My Name is Nobody its basically like that with some serious moments - an ok film.

Definitely The Great Silence and poss Sartana.

Yeah I forgot to add Great Silence and Navajo Joe to my list of ones I'm looking out for. I'm mainly interested in My Name is Nobody for the Leone involvement. Run Man Run I will probably get after seeing La Resa.

I was absolutely stunned by Keoma which I watched for the first time last night - possibly my favourite non-Leone. It almost made me forget I was at work.

From the ones on your list. I'd rank the ones I have seen:

The Great Silence
The Big Gundown (only seen full screen, a crime)
Death Rides a Horse (only seen full screen, same as above)
Bullett for the General
Run Man Run
Sabata (full screen)
Keoma

A couple others I have seen

A Minute to Pray  A Second to Die (good)
Four of the Apocolypse (decent)
A Reason to Live A Reason to Die (decent)
Adios Sabata (decent)
A Man Called Sledge (decent)
The Texican (fair)
The 2 Trinity DVDs with Hill and Spencer (Bad but funny)

I have Django, Django Kill, Companeros, and Mannaja dvds on the way. Smiley

Wont be happy until they are all on widescreen dvd

keoma
a bullet for the general(quien sabe)
Companeros
Death rides a horse
django
my name is nobody
and of course the 5 leone westerns...

are all essentials IMO... other than those i haven't found any other spaghetti westerns i've liked too much... four of the apocolypse, texas adios, above the law, and django kill are ok, but not worth the buy imo... specially since they are rare and will cost some dough.

all of you probably already know this but if you like leone you'll like john ford even though he makes american westerns there good ones, and i don't like american westerns for the most part.

oh yeah, how could i forget jonathan of the bears... made by the same team of director enzo castellari and franco nero as in keoma... considered the keoma sequal... although i don't know why... same reason the dollars trilogy is called the dollars trilogy i assume.

There is a list of the Top 20 Non-Leone Spag. Westerns on the Spaghetti Western Website which is in the links section of this site.  That is the list I have used as my guide.  Except for the rating of Django and Django Kill in the top 10 the list is pretty accurate as far as my tastes.  It rates The Big Gundown number 1.  Keomo is very good too.

wow quite a strange but interesting list u have there.
i dont think i have ever seen nor ever will see KEOMA as the best sw on some ones list. this is quite a moment to be treasured. also THE LAST PISTOLERO(short film) better then THE GREAT SILENCE? and most of the sw's u have up there to boot! Shocked

well i am glad that was different. i thought i was just going to get a rehash of pretty much what i wrote down.

thanks GRANPA. Wink

also i was not going to count it because i pretty much forgot about it. but...

the short film THE LAST GUNSLINGER(IL ULTIMO PISTOLERO) will have to get a 70% from me. but that is on a totally different category.
