On the same day I found you lot, I also found a fantastic site dedicated to the Coen Bros.  What a day!  With Sergio Leone they share the same sense of black humour, are as wonderfully able to tell a good yarn (which is in my mind v. important) and in casting they know who can be relied on to bring the performance in mind to the fore.  Check it out.  It's at:-

Coen brothers are great, never thought of it that way before but there are a lot of similarities to Leone.  They both love exploring the seamy underbelly of America, and all the absurdities that crawl around down there.  Fargo is an all-time favorite of mine, will have to check out that website.

my fav cb film is miller's crossing.

there's a scene in GB&U of  three bandits tuco has hired to kill blondie wallking menacingly, in unison, up to blondie's hotel room.

miller's crossing has that exact camera shot leone used.  that is, 3 guys with machine guns who are about  rub out mob boss albert finney/leo  who is lounging upstairs in his room listening to "oh danny boy" walking in unison up to his room.
i put on GB&U to compare the two scenes.  it's virtually the exact shot leone used. the shot of the men walking in unison alerts me somebodys about to be whacked. coen's added sound effects to the shot and showed it from different angles.

dynamite link h/s. thx for the good treatment.  Grin

I know which scene you're talking about.  But an old Albert Finney in his silk pajamas vs. Blondie cleaning his gun is no match for don't-even-think-of-f*cking-with-me-I'don't-care-how-many-goons-you-send-after-me menace.  Both scenes are ultracool though  Cool

btw, doesn't Wade Gustafson in Fargo (oh, it's it sweet deal Wade, really sweet) look a little bit like AngelEyes.  Coincidence?

I never thought of "Blood Simple" as among their very best. "Barton Fink" has always been the favourite, followed by "Fargo", "The Big Lebowski", and "Miller's Crossing". They have never done anything bad though, everything the Coens touch, turns into gold.
