Happy 50th birthday Elizabeth McGovern

The first time I saw the movie, I thought that, out of all the main cast, she was the weakest.  I understand a bit more now and I hope she has a really good birthday today.

Really liked her in Downton Abbey and on a recent Graham Norton TV show. Hope we get to see more of her when the additional footage from Once Upon A Time In America is released.

Some of the makeup scene is filmed with the camera looking at her image in a mirror. Mirrors can show a flattering image and there is the complication of the "Age cannot wither her" line.

Thanks. Afro I think she looks better now then she did when she was younger.

Thanks for posting  Afro

not sure why some people seem to have not liked her in OUATIA; I though she was terrific. Leone's knack for casting was incredible.

indeed, she does look exactly like Jennifer Connely in that last pic!

She looks great. That photo of her sitting in a chair outdoors is from House of Mirth I'm pretty sure.
I'm currently watching Downton Abbey and whenever she appears I still think 'Deborah'

In the picture in which she is standing at the stairway on the gold dress, she looks just like Michele Bachmann!

Didn't have a two-second cameo in Kick-Ass?

You can't compare movie pictures with real life pictures; movies often aim for a specific look, which sometimes is hot but sometimes is not.

I'm not necessarily saying that you're wrong if you think she is hotter now than she was then; I'm just saying the movie pictures are really an unfair comparison. (The two "real life" younger pictures of her aren't great, but part of it is that awful 80's hair style. How did people ever think that was attractive?Huh)

And btw she may well have had plastic surgery/botox or other corrective stuff. Nobody looks that good naturally at that age. (eg. Ever notice how good Julia Louis-Dreyfuss looks lately; she looked better as she ages. As lovely as she looks, that woman must get daily botox injections and God knows how much plastic surgery?!)

Anyway, I think McGovern looked just fine for her role in the movie, and did a great job as Deborah too.
