Wow, question I'm unable to answer !!!

In no particular order:
Ecstacy of Gold
Padre Ramirez
Tuco tracking Blondie through the desert, old campfires.

Best film ever for film music, best music integration, most stuff in the last 30 years pales in comparison.  Where's that Academy Award?  2.25 hours into the film one gets the entirely original Ecstacy of Gold track, most films with good scores mostly have only 2 or three original pieces, just reworked versions (Magnificent Seven, Jaws). And why couldn't "The academy" play "the Ecstacy of Gold" scene in its entirety on a huge screen in presenting Morricone with his achievement Oscar?

Someone dropped the ball in 2004 when GBU was once again eligible due to its showings in NY and Los Angeles, likely issue is that back then most had trouble whether to place this as a foreign film or not, which of course it was.  No matter, still the best.

Maybe a film that shows the "absurdity of war" staring draft dodgers, showing at time of the vietnam war might have faced a backlash with the less simpathetic wing of the Academy people.   :-\

However, Gone with the Wind cleaned up the awards back in the Forties.  :D

The Main Theme, Ecstacy of Gold, and Il Triello are all awesome.

If you have not seen the movie and are just listening to the music, then the first two are better than the third. But once you see the movie and the incredible Mexican standoff scene, you enjoy the Il Triello music as much as the others, cuz as you listen to it you think of the corresponding scene in the movie.

BTW, That standoff may be my all-time favorite scene in cinema history. I know Cusser loves the Ecstacy of Gold scene more -- and that scene is also among my all-time faves --  but IMO the standoff scene is even better. My favorite scenes in movie history are that standoff and the dinner scene at the end of Hannibal (and maybe another one or two scenes in Hannibal)  O0

There are three types of people in the world, my friend: those who can add, and those who can't.
