In the years during and after the Holocaust, the American gov't received a lot of criticism -- and rightfully so -- for doing nothing in hits power to prevent the Nazis' atrocities against the Jews. (Roosevelt famously rejected boatloads of Jewish refugees fleeing Europe; refused to  order the bombing of the railways to Auschwitz though he could have done so with the greatest of ease; refused to meet with a huge contingent of (about 400, I believe) rabbis who led a major March on Washington to try to pressure the him to do something to save the Jews; and after coming under much pressure, only very belatedly established the War Refugee Board; toward the end of the war, when the Nazis', desperate for money and supplies, offered to trade Jews for money, the gov't instituted major roadblocks in these transactions; etc. etc. etc., all of which ultimately led to the deaths of hundreds of thousands or millions more Jews than would have died if Roosevelt and others in government had indeed done whatever they could). So I wonder if this movie was meant a criticism of American inaction during the Holocaust that led to so many Jewish deaths.

Interesting points, but I don't think the film should be read on such a macro level.
