Welcome Aboard!

Colossus of Rhodes is a "Sword and Sandals" movie -- a genre which I have no interest in.

I don't think it was a great movie, but then again, I have not seen any other movies from that genre; I only saw COR for the sake of seeing every Leone movie. If you like that genre, maybe you will like COR as well.

You're not missing anything if you do not watch it; I'd only recommend watching it if you are a big Leone fan and want to see it just for the sake of seeing all of Leone's movies. If you do want to watch it, I'd say you should first rent it rather than buying it, cuz there is a good chance you will only wanna see it once. And if you do rent or buy the dvd, check out the commentary by Christopher Frayling; it is always a joy to listen to his commentaries, cuz he knows more about Leone than any person who ever lived  Smiley

Thanks for the welcome and the reply, which doesn't surprise me as i've never read anything on this that would make me want to buy it.  I know what you mean about the genre, I'm not a big fan of it either.  Maybe TNT will show it one day again...

If you have an account with Netflix or some similar service which allows you to rent movies for a flat fee, then I'd say you may as well put it in your queue; Frayling's commentaries are always interesting.

I would not have bought this one, nor would I have bought The Last Days of Pompeji if both weren't directed by Leone. And both were cheap.
 I bought  the German editions.

It's mediocre, though it has some flickers of Leone style here and there. Worth watching once.

I watched it today with the commentary, which was excellent.  In terms of watching the film by itself, I don't think I could manage it...but with the commentary, a great bargain for less than six bucks!
