I'd go with the Arrow. I have the TT and although it looks great I get tracking problems in the second half of the film (probably after the layer change). It may be a problem particular to my copy, but why take the chance? I don't have the (newer) Arrow, but I'd bet it's defect-free.

Thanks. I just made the purchase – including shipping it was under $18! Next time we meet we can lend each other our discs, so that I can listen to the second commentary (yeah right!) on the TT, and you can see the new bonus feature on Lancaster on the Arrow  ;)

Hopefully SLWBers check this section but the TT sale is back on in a big way.

http://newsletters.screenarchives-news.com/twilight-time-sale-2017/

I'm definitely getting Violent Saturday for 9.99, Emperor of the North (Pole) for 14.99 and probably Chato's Land for 14.99 too.

The 14.99 list has some gems like Alfredo Garcia, The Train, The Big Heat and Cowboy, among others.

It's worth the 9.99 pricetag for just Hard Times if you didn't pop for the TT bluray.

I'm gonna go to B+N tomorrow and grab a few that catch my eye (Before trilogy, Dekalog?). When ordering online it's really not worth it if you've got Amazon Prime unless you're buying in bulk due to shipping costs.

Yeah, you want to avoid shipping costs, so I always go to the store to shop (and there's a pretty convenient one near me in White Plains).

Sounds like you have some good candidates in mind. I'm waiting for the Sternberg/Dietrich set that comes out on Tuesday. I've pretty much got everything else I want already.

I went really heavy on Linklater and get everything Criterion has released by him, with:

Slacker / It's Impossible to Learn to Plow by Reading Books
Dazed and Confused
The Before Trilogy
Boyhood

all of these have so many excellent special features that I couldn't help it. I love listening to Rick talk. He'll teach me how to be a better director. And, Slacker + Before Trilogy have really good price differences in terms of Amazon vs. B&N Sale.

And I'm pretty sure they forgot to charge me for Boyhood

I also got Christopher Nolan's Following, I don't love the film, though I do like it and I was really interested in hearing his commentary. The main selling point is that it's pretty fuckin pricey on Amazon ($40 and out of stock) whereas it was only $20 at B+N.

So I spent just over $100 for 8 movies.

Almost grabbed Dekalog but it's exactly the same price as Amazon and I'm not ready to commit to re-watching the whole series again. Not yet at least. Too dark. I need happy movies.

Other-almost-purchases:

- The Fisher King
- Ghost World
- Blood Simple
- Silence of the Lambs
- Videodrome
- Shock Corridor
- Kagemusha
- F For Fake, Chimes at Midnight, Othello
- Kwaidan (would have been a blind buy)

had all those in my hands during my hour of decision-making, but decided I'd be responsible and just blow a more feasible Linklater load. don't got time for all those movies anyways

So that’s where all this crowdfunding money is going.

Amazon had Ghostworld for cheap recently so I already have that (I've got the German release, too, which I think has the same image.) You definitely should get the Criterion editions of Kagemusha and Kwaidan--both have excellent commentaries by Steven Prince. Prince really knows his stuff (although he can't pronounce Japanese names worth shit).

You probably know that Kwaidan is an anthology film with 4 separate supernatural tales. Everything is done on elaborate and very artificial sets. The score is one of the most bizarre ever, but truly wonderful. Even if you don't enjoy the first couple stories, be sure to stay through to the third, "Hoichi, The Earless." Possibly the greatest achievement in all of Japanese cinema. I re-watch it several times a year.
