Another glamourizing biopic of a psycopath criminal of the worst kind (i.e. those who think they have a mission in life apart from stealing money and having a ball) who had an adventurous life, thanx to the inefficiency of the french and canadian prison system. Actually, there is still some controversy about his death because the french police didn't order him to surrender before fill him up with lead. Still, thanx to the plot which invents little and just follows the criminal main events, the movie is entertaining and well shot (they put money into it). Sure, we know little about the character and the director does nothing to show how his character developed (he came from a well-being family but the movie contents itself to explain his choices by throwing some remark about his parents). Cassel is one of my unfavourite actors with his lizardy face and in the first part, especially when put beside Depardieu (who 20 years before would have been perfect for the part) looks ridiculous, better suited to play a barber or the straight man of a comedian. With the heavy makeup for the older Mesrine he works, though. I give it 8/10.

The movie is available with english subtitles here:

BTW, it seems that Depardieu played a Mesrine inspired character in Inspecteur La Bavure in 1980.

I authorize you to change the title of the topic, if you want, to something more imaginative like you  are used to do. Cool
