trust a man who wears both a belt and suspenders?

« #30 : August 06, 2012, 09:35:08 PM »

so I guess that in the Olympics, nothing is ever a sure thing.

In the women's gymnastics individual apparatus finals: Macayla Maroney, who is by far and away the best vaulter in the world (by as wide a margin as China is the most populous country in the world)  falls on her ass on her final vault and winds up with Silver, which was about ten times more shocking than any of Michael Phelps's silvers. Then on the parallel bars, American rock star Gabby "The Flying Squirrel" Douglas -- not the clear favorite on this apparatus, but still great, she kicked ass on it during the team and individual all-around qualifications and finals -- was unable to complete turn over the bar, her body was arched too far backward, and finished dead last.

So, you never know shit. That's why we watch  ;) And I'll definitely be watching Tuesday night as Gymnastics concludes with Womens Floor Exercise and Balance Beam, and Mens Parallel Bars and Horizontal Bar  O0

Always sad when an Olympiad ends. Had a great time watching all the events; USA had the most overall medals and most Golds.

For the athletes, now the victory tour begins! You won't be able to turn on a tv or buy a box of cereal without seeing some Olympic medalist on it  ;)

Sochi 2014 is only a year and a half away!  :)

so the jackarses at the IOC  just removed wrestling from the summer olympics. But they didn't touch dumbass sports like badminton that I can't believe anyone watches. And no less than Rummy is trying to get it changed! http://articles.washingtonpost.com/2013-02-15/opinions/37115730_1_original-olympic-sports-olympic-spirit-olympic-games

every American college and high school with an athletics department has a wrestling program; not having wrestling in the Olympics -- the highest level a wrestler could attain -- will significantly harm those programs. I'm not sure what it's like in other countries, but again, there ain't no way in motherfucking hell that it's less popular than shit like badminton.

this is probably an anti-American job by those bastards. Like when they got rid of baseball and softball. Though almost non-existent in Europe, baseball is the #1 or #2 most popular team sport in the United States, Latin America, Japan, Taiwan, and Korea.

The IOC has long been known to be comprised of jackarses among whom a swift outbreak of the clap would improve the world greatly

The closest I've ever been involved in the Olympics was when it came here to Sydney back in 2000, I was about 6 years old, and got to hold the Sydney Olympic Torch at school, along with everyone else in my class.

nice!

The Sydney Olympics is the first one I watched extensively. I was 16, must have watched 6 hours a day.

I don't think there's a track and field athlete from that Olympics who hasn't been implicated in some steroids scandal

I remember us having a competition as to who could draw these three guys the best - http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/olympics/images/attachement/gif/site1/20070807/0013729ece6b0822958e4d.gif and we'd get some sort of voucher if we won, and I remember going home that night and practicing drawing these guys over and over again, but came in fourth place the next day.

before we begin our discussion of the 2014 winter Olympics in Sochi, I must leave you all with the most beautiful image from the 2012 summer Olympics in London (other than that of a USA athlete winning gold) .... the incredible ass of Spanish beach volleyball player Liliana Fernandez Steiner http://goo.gl/OpI5mm

okay, now we begin to look forward to.............

The Opening ceremony for the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia is one month away - Feb. 7, 2014!

I'll open the discussion with my favorite part of any winter olympics - MENS HOCKEY!

Team USA will include three of my New York Rangers: Ryan Callahan, Derek Stepan, and Ryan McDonagh

four additional Rangers will be on various Olympic teams: Rick Nash (Canada), Carl Hagelin and Henrik Lundqvist (Sweden), and Mats Zuccarello will be the only current NHL player for Norway.

one of the most important questions for any Olympics that takes place in a foreign country is the tv coverage - whether it'll be live or taped, how much will be shown

http://communities.washingtontimes.com/neighborhood/sochi-2014-winter-olympics/2013/dec/21/nbc-live-tv-coverage-sochi-winter-olympics-schedul/

this is a really good article -  it says that NBC will be showing lots of stuff live on tv, even though Sochi is 9 hours ahead of the Eastern Time Zone... and that every single event will b streamed live online. it's a really good article with lots of useful info; if you are an American Olympic fan, read it  :)

Looking forward to a great Olympics for the boys and girls in red, white, and blue.... and looking forward to some great discussions here  :)

Been watching Olympics all nite on NBC (and avoiding ESPN in the meantime, cuz I don't wanna hear reports of who's won what, since the sports shown in primetime on NBC are all tape-delayed)...

By sheer luck I watched all six German Gold medals 'live'.
Guess I'll watch some more :)

it hasn't been a very good Olympics thus far for the US of A.

Shaun White (snowboard halfpipe) and Shani Davis (spedskating 1000M) were aiming to become the first men in Winter Olympic history to win gold in the same event 3 Olympics in a row.... but failed to even reach the podium (for the record, 2 women have won three straight golds in a particular Winter Olympic event).

As usual, the Dutch have been kicking ass in speedskating

Oh well, there's still a ways to go... and my favorite Olympic sport of them all, men's hockey, begins Thursday  :)

USA hockey team kicks Slovak ass, 7-1. (The one Slovak goal was scored off an uncalled offside violation....) Much tougher test comes against Russia on Saturday.... I think there are 4 teams with a chance at gold: Canada, Sweden, Russia, USA. Should be fun :-)

great USA-Russia hockey game   O0

IMO it's dumb how they let the same guy shoot over and over again in the shootout; in the NHL, you have to go through the whole team, you can't have the same guy taking every shot. But hey, it worked for USA  :)
