This reminds me of the time QT completely ruined my understanding of Death Proof by insisting that the second part of the film DID NOT precede the first part chronologically--and then added a title card to the extended cut to make sure no one could come away with such a "misreading". But really, the "wrong" way to read that film is more interesting than the director approved one.

Another Day, Another Time announced for separate BD release in the UK: http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=13480

As I suspected, the rights holders think they can make more this way than licensing it as an extra for ILD.

I bet saying "Folk concert with Joan Baez" is more attractive than "A musical tribute to this obscure Cannes movie you never saw".

The BD is excellent. I finally watched it on HDTV, not on a big screen (the left speaker of my parents home cinema is definitely dead, which explains why I still haven't rewatched Gravity although I bought the BD 2 weeks ago). I was skeptical because I still don't like how the grading of the YouTube trailers look on my PC screen and I loved the grading in theater... but the colors are great on TV so everything is fine.

Damn just reading about this movie makes me want to watch it again.

Anyway, nice but short but also nice interview of DoP Bruno Delbonnel:

Quote
“I don’t like the term ‘look,’” Delbonnel says. “To me, a ‘look’ is just fashion. You see it in fashion photography. It’s just an aesthetic, and in a couple of years it will be something else. It’s about emotion and the story. For Inside Llewyn Davis, I was looking for sadness, so I had to define it. Is it yellow? Is it green? I had to find a way to make this sadness with color and density and contrast. That is my job as a cinematographer.”

Delbonnel crafted imagery that is low contrast, with little or no sunlight. That approach fit well with the short New York winter days, which only provided about six hours of daylight.

None of that "magic hour" crap that the amateurs are always pulling on us. Yeah, baby! Afro

I just watched it for the first time the other day. I skipped its theatrical run, but bought the blu-ray on the day of release. I was pleasantly surprised. I knew the production of the film was going to be splendid being a Coen Brothers vehicle, but I was surprised at the extended talents I found of Oscar Isaac. His vocals are wonderful. The film really captures the struggle and ongoing hardships of the artist, in particular the folk singer of the 1960s. That Dylan bit at the end was neat.

It puts The Zim in his place. He's a vehicle, like Davis. The music is what's important, not the musician.

man or biscuit?, I don't get the reference Cool

Spending disposable money for in theater new film premier experiences is a very very very low priority, I think Sin City 2 was the only exception since August this past year. I rather spend the whole day fishing for stripers along the Jersey Shore. I'm not particularly swayed by the current Genres in vogue either anyway, so Netfilx streaming and DVD's are the way to go for us for recent films. I'll research and buy DVD's (and even VHS tapes if it's if a Noir or Neo Noir I want to see)

PS the only film that has sounded interesting lately is Nightcrawler.
