Is the medieval epic Markéta Lazarová (František Vlácil) the best Czech film ever made? Apparently, many people think so. Ms. Hedgehog?

Ms. Groundhog hasn't seen it, unfortunatelly. She only can say, that really many people think so. From what she has seen so far, she would go for The Cremator. But only because she hasn't seen Marketa Lazarová...
She could ask her Literature teacher who's very much into films.
 Grin

Well, I looked at the ranks on Czecho-Slovakian film database and The Cremator is Nr. 12, while Markéta Lazarová isn't in the list of best 200 at all... Now let's guess if it means the Cremator is much better or if it means the list isn't trustworthy... I only can tell you, that OUATITW is Nr. 9 in that list... Nr. 1 is Shawshank Redemption, Nr. 2 Forrest Gump and Nr. 3 One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. GBU is Nr. 16.
The next Vláčil's film, The Valley of Bees, is Nr. 117.
Now I only can abuse myself for throwing away the possibility to see Valley of Bees in cinema for free about four years ago... That time I wasn't so much into films as I'm getting to be now. Undecided
(And thanks to whom? Which director? Huh? Grin)

There are two kinds of films in this world:those which stay, even when their genre is forgotten, and those which don't.

Really detailled... it seems to me I'm getting it, too. Smiley Somehow I managed to avoid this film up till now... avoid unintentionally.

Amazon.co.uk has told me my disc is in the mail. Should have it sometime this week. I haven't been so excited since Andrei Rublev came out on LD!
