I'm excited about my seats - sec. 15 row 2

I sure hope he doesn't use Susanna Rigacci. That woman is absolutely awful. That's one reason I have a hard time watching some of his clips in YouTube, cuz I cant stand Rigacci.

I emailed Max Gallotta and asked what soprano will be performing. God, I hope its anyone but Rigacci.

Which non-Leone film scores does Morricone usually perform at his concerts?

I've seen Cinema Paradiso and The Battle of Algiers. I still have to watch The Mission (and no, I will NOT watch the rest of Malena; I watched the first hour or so and it was awful). Otherwise, what non-Leone scores does he usually play at his concerts? I wanna be sure to know every song he'll play there.

And how long are his concerts usually? I assume about 2 hours?

Here is his setlist from last August:

http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/ennio-morricone/2013/arena-di-verona-verona-italy-63c6724f.html

In 2007 it was about 2 hours...

*Note he may not play Sacco and Vanzetti's Here's to you. Their execution is still a touchy subject in the USA.
It wasn't played at RCMH.

can someone translate the setlist into English? I understand the Leone movies and some others, but there are quite a few that I don't. Thanks.

Looks to me like there isn't a single song on this setlist from OUATIA? And there's nothing from FOD or FAFDM?Huh God I hope this is not the setlist he uses at Barclay's. (I mean, in a perfect world I'd love for him to do every song he ever made for Leone, but realistically,) I hope he'd do at least one song from each of the Leone movies, and multiple songs from a few.

I guess we'll have to see if we can get his setlists from the shows he does shortly before this one. Does he usually play a similar setlist or does it vary widely?

I hope I can get some video of this event afterward... if no official video, I hope at least there would be a bootleg somewhere....

You can hear an excerpt from the tune by clicking on the arrow, next to the title.
From the 2007 concert and all the videos I've seen:

There is a 4 tune Leone medley. (TGTBATU, OUATITW, DYS and Ectasy of gold)
There is 2 from OUATIA
An extended Cinema Paradiso medley.
The Mission medley.

You may not know the others.

Abolisson from the Marlon Brando movie Burn!, was my personal discovery from the 2007 concert.
The tune really stays with you.

Finally none from FOD, FAFDM and My name is Nobody.
At his age, I don't think he'll change an already winning formula.

It's very similar to what he played in Paris 10 years ago. The first part ended with L'Estasi dell'Oro, which wa amazing. The second half was a bit weaker but still huge.

Ufff... that's it. The encores were:

1. Once upon a time in America (Deborah's theme)
2. The good, the bad and the ugly (The Ecstasy of Gold)
3. Mission (On Earth as it is in Heaven)

It was monumental. And as you can see, a really long concert, three hours (ok, there was a 20-30 min intermission). Just like with user 'Sean Sean Sean', I was very impressed with "Abolição" (Abolisson). I cannot describe how powerful it sounded live - the cool intro... the powerful choir... and then when you think it's over, the short reprise bit... it is the piece that impressed me the most from that evening's concert. Play it loud: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EHW4Wm8eR78

P.S. there are only few vids (quite bad quality) from the Belgrade concert on Youtube, and one of them is my "Abolição"! It goes without saying that the sound in the Arena was much, much better than presented on this vid, but it's all there is I'm afraid - better than nothing:

Edited to add: the programme. The scans are large, but I've re-sized them to 1600x1000 pixels, but since the scans are still big, I don't want to mess the page so I'll just post links for them.

Afro

My fav live version is from Prague 2011 - it's a crappy audience vid, BUT what a great moment, check it out; during the build-up the crowd starts clapping in rhythm, and just before the crescendo you can see Morricone turning to the crowd to stop them for a moment, and then when the reprise bit kicks in afterwards, he turns again and motions them to continue - it was such a 'Radetzky march at the Vienna New Year Concert' moment, but completely ad hoc!

@ Milan NS that's magical.

There is also this amteur version from the RCMH concert in 2007.
At the end you can faintly hear ME shout out: «BRAVO!»

I was a little off to the left, 5th row.

Twice yes.

It stayed in my head for weeks.
Bought the DVD from the movie Burn just to hear it in context.
BTW, the movie itself is forgettable IMHO.
