RE: your discussion of how Leone-rejected Morricoen music wound up in other directors' films: that may well be true, but it's also intersting that Frayling has actually mentioned the opposite: that Leone took pride in taking Morricone music that other directors had rejected, and then turning them into hit music with his own films. I believe he discusses this in the FOD chapter of STDWD; I think the main theme of FOD (which, as we know, was an arrangement Morricone had composed for Woody Guthrie's "Pastures of Plenty") was rejected by another director before Leone took it.
The saloon piano tune from For A Few Dollars More is reused in either The Big Gundown or Death Rides a Horse.
