What are you crying about? Wasn't it you who said that Bronson wasn't much of a leading man?

hahaha, yes, but I'm a fan of Charles though. That comment doesn't pertain to me. I'm saying in the overall movie world, Charles didn't sell as a leading man for the most part, that doesn't mean some of us didn't like it.

Charley is great in everything I've seen him in. He has great screen presence.
He just happened to be in a few awful movies.

Yeah especially that one travesty by that Leone hack. I mean come on! how can the hero get shot in the first 8 minutes of the flick? and whats with that bit about having so few lines? did the writers forget to give him any?

Recently saw this year old video (https://youtu.be/1UBia76eesA) from Mark Kermode regarding the history of this remake.

Resuscitating this thread to see if anyone is gonna see it. The critics seem to dislike it just a bit but this guy on IMDB seems to either be a genuine fan or shill for MGM.

Quote
It's 12.30am over here in Malaysia, and yesterday was the premiere of Eli Roth's "Death Wish Movie," starring the legendary Bruce Willis. Now, firstly, I have not seen the original, but as a big fan of Eli Roth's horror movies, I had to watch it and I have to say, it's very well executed by Master of Horror, Eli Roth. It's a violent revenge action movie. It's no ordinary direct-to-video movie or overrated Hollywood movie. Most importantly, it's a movie that finally stars Bruce Willis as the main man, bringing back the action in the old school way. It also stars great actors such as Vincent D'Onofrio and Elisabeth Shue. It's definitely awesome to see a Hollywood legend kicking ass, the old school way, on the big screen. It's all thanks to Eli Roth, and God bless him for bringing back Bruce Willis.

As a remake, it looks pretty terrible. They seem to have removed everything that made the original one interesting and made it a generic Bruce Willis film. I won't pay a dime to see it.

Remakes have very little to do with the flaws or qualities of the original movie.

I enjoyed the idea of the Joe Carnahan directing and Liam Neeson starring version of Death Wish but the Eli Roth and Bruce Willis combo doesn't seem to be worthwhile.

The remake departs from the original in many aspects. And at the beginning it works better for the fluency of narration. The son-in-law is eliminated (but why substituting him with a Kersey's brother?). The main change is in the fact that Kersey manages to find the original killers of his wife (that's why  here he's a surgeon). That makes all the difference, as in the novel and the original movie there could be no satisfaction  to his frustration (though even in the remake the finale leaves some doubts about his reformation). So in the end this this turns up to be the usual action movie. But it is a well made action movie with a couple of suspensful scenes. 7/10
