"The Good, the Bad and the Ugly", my all-time favorite film (plus a great anti-war film for those who have figured it out) has dropped to number 6 on IMDB's all-time film list (Il Buono, il Brutto, il Cattivo), still not too shabby for a western made by Italians in 1966.  http://www.imdb.com/chart/top

Ahead of it are The Shawshank Redemption (1994), The Godfather (1972), The Godfather: Part II (1974), The Dark Knight (2008), Pulp Fiction (1994).

What was its position before it "dropped"?

Like five to seven years ago it was 3rd or even 2nd on the list, if I remember right. Not that the position means anything, but still, nice to see folks have at least some taste left in 'em.

It's a nice site containing useful information, and that's it.

Forget the lists, the ratings, the message boards, the annoying ads, etc. IMDB is a GREAT site for the basic info about movies; having a site that has virtually every movie ever made - the name, release date, cast, etc. is indispensable. There is no other single site you can find that stuff; in many instances, that info is unavailable anywhere. Where else can you find e.g. the cast or release date of some obscure movie from the 1930's that has never been released on DVD, but you just watched on TCM and wanna know more info about? So far as I know, nowhere.

I think GBU was #4 for many years, but I can't remember seeing it any higher than that.

That's just amazing. I take it it has always been below the Godfather films?

I always avoided to watch The Shawshank Redemption, I can't remember that I ever read anything interesting about The Shawshank Redemption, something that would make me curious. How comes that it is that popular? In the S&S list it got only (at least?) 1 vote ...

Same here. The poster doesn't scream "MASTERPIECE" either.
