From now on I'll watch only movies whose posters scream: ''MASTERPIECE!''.

It was an euphemism BUT it would also make you watch most Leone movies...
... aaaaand without that poster trick I know you'll watch the original Robocop over and over so you can thank me.

I would say that in my opinion that The Shawshank Redemption is a damn good film, and very enjoyable.

The Godfather, The Godfather: Part II, and Pulp Fiction are pretty darn good too.

Other non-Leone favorites that come to my mind at the moment are Stalag 17, Red River, Treasure of the Sierra Madre, Adventures of Robin Hood, Captain Blood, Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, Searchers. Great Escape, Benjamin Button, Forrest Gump....

In my honest opinion, the 250 cant be taken seriously if "All the President's Men" and "The French Connection" didn't make the cut!

If I remember rightly, star wars was in the top 3 in the early days.

Sci Fi fan voters will always have the  block vote.

I always avoided to watch The Shawshank Redemption, I can't remember that I ever read anything interesting about The Shawshank Redemption, something that would make me curious.

Why would you avoid watching a great film? The fact that it tanked at the box office yet became one of the most popular home releases of all time should make you curious.

Cause it doesn't look like a film I expect to be great, nor entertaining. It was so often on TV the last years, I always thought about watching it, but always did something else in the time.

I saw TSR, long time ago. Nothing memorable. Hollywoodish. Yeah, entertaining, but not more entertaining than another hundred hollywood movies. A mystery why it should be that popular. My guess is that the female audience may like it more than more male oriented movies like GBU or Pulp. A mystery nonetheless.

TSR does not deserve to be #1, not even top 25, maybe not even top 50. But it is a damn good movie and anyone who doesn't see it is missing out.....

The real question is: is this as much a damn good movie as The Green Mile? If it is I swear I'll never ever watch it.

To say nothing of the effeminate metro-sexuals who frequent IMDb.

I'm with you.

I once had to substitute for a teacher who was showing Shawshank to her class; the part I saw was either the beginning or somewhere in the middle; either way, the experience was so painful that I vowed never to watch the film in its entirety.

I never saw THE GREEN MILE so I can't compare.
Not watching a movie cuz you once walked in in middle and didn't like a few minutes?.... There seem to be two kinds of people on the SLWB: those who have seen TSR, and those who bash TSR

A few? It was a good 45 min. That was enough to know it wasn't for me.
