I started watching it.... one of the interviewees says the tight closeup that was made necessary for the Techniscope was first thought up during FAFDM. But that's not true, that tight Leone trademark closeup is in FOD as well; as seen in  this photo http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film2/dvdreviews42/fistful%20of%20dollars%20blu-ray/large/large%20fistfulfo%20dollars%20blu-ray5.jpg

is it slightly less tight in FOD? is it used less often in FOD? I don't know. But it's incorrect to say that tight closeup was first thought up in FAFDM.

I agree. It was already a very flashy trick in FOD (remember the "Get 3 coffins ready" scene). What I would say, however, is that the more "square" your image is, the uglier your tight closeup looks.

The more square your ass is, the uglier your tight close-up will be, too.

it's really crazy to see Tonino Valeri shedsing tears as he recounts a feud with Leone. It really does seem, based on the stuff Frayling mentions in STDWD quoting Leone's collaborators, that (if you believe his collaborators) Leone was just not a very good human being. His actors for the most part absolutely loved him (and there seems to be no bigger Leone cheerleader than Cardinale) but his collaborators.... that's another story.

About that Sharon Tate story...... why did Frayling not mention it in STDWD? did he not know about it? I believe it was Luciano Vincenzoni who said the story - well, Frayling certainly quoted from Vincenzoni in the book, I am sure he did an interview with him for the book (perhaps through a translator); it seems mighty, mighty, mighty strange that a biography would not mention the story of the subject nearly being killed by Charles Manson

from watching this documentary, I finally got to hear (however briefly) the Italian-dubbed voices of many of the American stars of Leone's films. Seems to me that generally, the Italians have lower, deeper voices than the American actors actually had.

But of course, it's hard to judge from the brief clips

RE: MNIN, I believe Valerii only said that Leone directed the scene in the bar with the glasses, and one other scene, I forgot which one. Cuz we have heard all sorts of different stories over what Leone did or didn't direct in that movie....
