Do we know if Vivienne Chandler from DYS is still alive? I remember one of our members had corresponded with her years ago.

She just died last June 6  Cry

Wikipedia calls her Vivienne Chandler http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vivienne_Chandler

IMDB calls her Vivienne Maya http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0151302/?ref_=nmbio_bio_nm

Maybe it's a maiden name/married name thing. Seems she became a photographer, wikipedia says that as a photographer she used the names Holly Bush and Holly Bund

RIP Colleen

actually, it's kind of strange

IMDB has a separate page for Vivienne Chandler http://www.imdb.com/name/nm6010739/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1

and Vivienne Maya http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0151302/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1

There are separate filmographies on the two pages. E.g.  the Vivienne Maya filmography includes Victor Victoria, DYS, and The Draughtsman's Contract and others - and lists her birth as 1947 and her death as June 6, 2013.
The Vivienne Chandler filmography includes films like A Clockwork Orange, Night for Day, and The Video Guys, but makes no mention of a date of birth or death.

So, she must have used both names during her career.

If anyone can edit an IMDB page, it would probably be best clear up the confusion by merging them into a single page....

I'll reiterate: any of you who haven't yet read Eli's autobiography, "The Good, the Bad, and Me: In My Anecdoatge," should do so ASAP. It is a really wonderful read. Great stuff!

btw, Eli was offered – and turned down – the role of Maggio in From Here to Eternity, the role that eventually, famously went to Frank Sinatra, won him an Academy Award, and kickstarted one of the most famous comebacks in showbiz history. I just remembered that now because A) TCM showed FHTH tonight, and I happen to be in middle of watching another movie with Sinatra now, Not as a Stranger.

I don't remember why Eli said he turned down the role. But I do remember that in general, Eli writes a lot about the tension between taking stage roles – which he preferred; an actor gets to really play a part straight, as opposed to a movie, which films out of sequence and with a bunch of takes and cuts – and taking movie roles, for which there is so much more money and fame. Indeed, so many legendary stage actors are forgotten, but movie stars are remembered and have their performances recorded so we can enjoy them again and again, whenever we want to.

I just finished reading Edward G. Robinson's autobiography, he also writes about how much he preferred stage acting – but in Robinson's case, once he started in the movies, he didn't return to the stage for 28 years (and even then, I think it was only because he was having a hard time finding work in the movies cuz he was blacklisted). In the case of Marlon Brando, I believe that once he started working in movies he never returned to the stage. Eli obviously did plenty of stage work throughout his career, but I'm sure glad, and we're all sure lucky, that he also chose to work in the movies. He made an unforgettable impression in every one of his performances.

It's great that he lived so long, and got the well-deserved Oscar for “a lifetime’s worth of indelible screen characters.”

Hi,
By coincidence I was trying to fix Vivienne's IMDb page - but you are incorrect to merge, these are two people for sure - the one listed at http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0151302/ is the one you refer to. You will note that all her credits have been moved to this page, whereas before it was all mixed up.

If you are interested you can follow the history of changes on this thread (sort of): https://getsatisfaction.com/imdb/topics/vivienne-maya and you can also see the prove of the "other" Vivienne being clearly a different person.

The main question for me is why IMDb list her as Maya when everything she was in she used the name Chandler. I was planning to change that but didn't want to lose the Maya until I knew where it came from (that way it can be listed corrected in her bio etc).

Sorry for butting in....but I had seen this old thread and what I had been doing seemed to fit.
