Tarantino came yesterday to Rome to receive the two David awards for PF and DU he hadn't had the chance to retire before. The two prizes were presented to him by the MAestro. Tarantino said the first movie he ever saw in a theatre was GBU.

Tarantino confirming that Morricone will write a full score for the film, I love the crowd reaction:

At least he got his facts wrong. Morricones last Spagie score was from 1980.

Later he also made a score for Terence Hills Lucky Luke (1991) film.

An excerpt from Vulture's interview with Tarantino:

- Ennio Morricone wrote the score for Hateful Eight. How does it sound?
- It's horrible. What do you expect me to say?

- Well, I'm excited about it. Yours is the first Western heís scored since 1975.
- I know, and I'm not going to say shit about it. You'll hear it when you see it. It's absolutely abysmal.

- Is Morricone bringing back his whistler for this one?
- No. Thereís no whistling in this score. That guy is still alive, though.

- This is the first time one of your movies has had a score. Does that mean there won't be any pop songs on the soundtrack?
- I didnít say that.

Dutch TV interview with Morricone posted today:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hx055Bz8qzo

Translation of the Tarantino segment, thanks to Didier Thunus:

"I donít want to repeat myself. Can I repeat for Tarantino what Iíve done for Leone? Itís not possible, right? It would be absurd. It would make Tarantinoís movie look hideous, because that music is old, you see. I had to write it in another way. But I have written very important music for him. I donít know if he directly realized that, or if the others did. They didnít expect that music, thatís why they didnít understand it. But he told me, after he had listened to it twice: itís ok, I like it. But at first it had been a shock. He had expected something completely different. But I didnít give that to him, because I didnít want to give him something he knew already."

I think they're both dicks (Ennio is well known among journalists to be a tough one) but they can be whoever they want as long as they keep making great stuff. Morricone is one of these creators whose art lies in experimentation. He's always reinventing himself, just like Picasso. That's part of what makes him much more important in music history than John Williams or Danny Elfman. Few people can compose Star Wars or OUATITW, but almost nobody can compose both GBU and The Mission.
