I've been thinking about this recently so if I start rambling, just ignore it and skip on down.
Some of my favorite movies involve American cowboys/gunmen/criminals going into Mexico for different adventures, along the lines of Mag7, The Wild Bunch, and The Professionals. However, I've noticed that a lot of these movies take place at or toward the end of the Civil War.
In Major Dundee, a troop of 50 or 60 men rides into Mexico in pursuit of a band of 47 renegade Apaches. They also tangle with French lancers.
In Vera Cruz, a bunch of American adventurers escort a gold shipment, battling French and Mexican soldiers.
In The Undefeated, Union vets are driving a herd of 3,000 horses to Mexico City. A wagon train of ex-Confederates is riding through Mexico at the same time.
Not that this is any brilliant revelation, but a lot seems to be going on in April 1865 in northern Mexico. You'd think at some point, all these storylines would interact. And I know, they're just movies, but come on, isn't that kind of cool? What other movies am I missing?
