Ferrara is a specialist of sci-fi gangster movies, based on absurd scripts and characters. This is a good example. A gangster with a social conscience, wants to build a hospital in a poor neighbourhood and to do it he exterminates two rival gangs and a host of demented cops. Of course, he's gonna sell dope in that same neighborhood but that doesn't seem to create a moral dilemma for him. The characters act on little logic and they're are not helped by the actors. David Caruso is the best of the lot but his character doesn't help him; Snipes is his usual inexpressive self and, fortunately, he has got little screen time; I always thought the only good thing Fishburne ever made was Montana, but here he beats himself: in a ridiculous droog attire, he looks like a white kid aping the moves of a black street punk: evidently he must have had a college degree and never seen a ghetto. Carrie Nygren is beautiful. Walken, who looks like Joker without make-up, adopts his most usual routine expression: half-open mouth and fixed eyes.  cigar might like it for the exteriors: as you have understood, even though this is my second, and last, vision, I don't. 5/10

There is always two scenes that stand out to me in the film. The first one being the scene where Fishburne and Walken meet and then all a sudden Walken does that dance (Scene) and Larry Fishburne's death scene with him just laughing and laughing. I haven't seen the film in a long while so maybe a rewatch is in order.

Yeah, stupid script and characters but great atmosphere and plenty of strong scenes. I watch it from time to time. I've not been able to get that sudden dance scene out of my mind since I've first seen the movie something like 8 years ago, it's just too cool.

6.5-7.5/10

Yeah, those scenes, especially the second one, stand out. But I can't imagine a gangster boss doing that dance, especially after having been released from prison. It's a cheap hollywoodish way to buid a over the top character.
