Interesting and true!

Not interesting and wrong!

In French, you have to say "films noirs", because of what you say (adjectives have to be made plural is the name is). So if someone uses it in an English sentence, it only means they switched to French for a couple words. And it does make sense.

This is why you should have said "it doesn't make sense in English" or "it isn't English".
But of course, that was understood. Or it would have been if you weren't crazy. >:D

I didn't know that about corresponding adjectives and nouns in French. So you can have "film noir" singular, or "films noirs" plural, but never "films noir" or "film noirs", n'est pa (Fr. n'est-ce pas)?

But since those guys doing the blogging are writing in English, they should adopt English usage.

Actually, why not just use the term "black film" or "black films"? To be used in contradistinction to "black's film" or "black's films" or "blacks' films." Maybe we need a new thread here.

Exactly. It's not only the case when there is a noun, you also put the plural (when needed) when the adjective is alone. Also, you have to consider the fact that a subject can be either masculine or feminine.

EXAMPLES

He is smart / Il est malin
She is smart / Elle est maline
They (several people, including AT LEAST a male) are smart / Ils sont malins
They (several women and girls) are smart / Elles sont malines

You Frenchies supposed to be so liberal, yet you're not even gender-neutral when referring to objects ;-p

 ;D

We're also the country of gallantry, so it's just everyday training.

But since those guys doing the blogging are writing in English, they should adopt English usage.

I think those 2 words (film noir) are right. The other words are wrong. We should all write in French.

You mean . . . Cuckoo's Nest was Forman's allegory of life in France?

The truth is I have never ever seen any sample Preminger's work so I have absolutely no reason whatsoever to come back on this thread.

One of Preminger's best: http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=19572

It's also one of the few films pre-1960 that was pitched at grown-ups.
