Oh, Drink, you should never watch this film again. With all the laughter I heard last night, I have to conclude that the film is a comedy. Better keep your distance.

Considering the laughter I heard in Film Forum when Patsy says, "We shoulda taken the dollar; we coulda had ten corned beef sandwiches on poppy seed rolls!" I guess OUATIA is a comedy, too  ;)

I think that's a big reason that GBU is so popular.  On one level, it's pretty darn funny in spots.  Tuco is funny, yet we all know he will kill at the drop of a hat, not an easy combination to pull off, and I'm not sure anyone but Wallach could've done that.

On another level you have the tale of three outlaws searching for $$$, stopping at nothing.

On another level, you have to admire Angel Eyes' work ethic: "I always see the job through"

You can see Blondie and even Tuco taking on a more compassionate side as the film progresses.

And of course, a tremendous anti-war film, one of Sergio's main intentions.  Bodies and young soldiers without limbs everywhere, and even Blondie talking about what a waste of life.

On the BRD commentary, Frayling says that he saw the movie in a San Francisco theater in 1969. When Blondie said, "I've never seen so many men wasted so bad," the whole theater cheered.

I thought the folks here would be interested in seeing screencaps comparing the MGM 4K BD vs. 35MM dye transfer print scan.

My pleasure.

DJ, do the caps of the 35mm scan take you back to The NewBev?
