I see that Dario Fo, Italy's Nobel laureate playwright, died when he got the news.

But this is the world we live in. If Obama can get the Peace Prize, absolutely anything can happen.

Fo deserved that prize as much as Zimmermann, maybe even less. He deserved the highest honour for his theatre activity (though there's only one comedy I liked, i.e. Mistero buffo) but he has, like Z., little to do with Literature.

I love Dylan's music; I have mixed feelings over a musician winning the Nobel in Literature. Are they going to start doing this often? Maybe they should just make a Nobel prize for music

titoli, what is it with you and insisting on using Dylan's real name - only with Dylan? Do you refer to John Wayne as Morrison? Cary Grant as Leach? Marilyn Monroe as Baker?

He's usurping the name of a poet.

He got it for the lyrics not for the music. But should one divide the words from the sound? But he's not the only musician who writes excellent lyrics.

His name was mentioned always in the last years for that little prize, so it is absolutely no surprise.

And he's not the first one who isn't a novelist.

I've got no problem with this.
In fact I think it's well deserved.
He's no ordinary musician/songwriter so I don't think this the beginning of the end.

Didn't poet's start out with accompaniment anyways?

Not many people know those lyrics were penned by the one and only Larkin!

Show up or not, he is still accepting the prize. After Sartre snubbed the Academy by refusing the prize, they have always made it a point to get a nominee's acceptance before they make an award.

Keith Richards added: "I canít think of anybody that deserved it better."
