As I had read the novel a few years agp most of the suspense was lost, but still this ia a very good thriller as it was based on one of Dard's best works, though resorting to a trick made famous by Ellery Queen's The Lamp of God. Oddly the first scenes reminded me of Visconti's Le notti bianche, but the direction is generally good. And, of course, this is no noir by a mile. 8/10
