In a paragraph,  what's the problem with the U.S. version?
Bruce

It's a cut version. ;)

Most people agree it is the best version.

I hope not. I don't think that it is the better version, but it is at least not a version which damages the film.

Just check the Stanton cut aka as the version Leone always watches in heaven

(in hell only a 7 min version is available which includes the complete grotto scene)

(in hell it's a 20min version that consists of the grotto screne + the cut FAFDM scene of Monco with the saloon girl in ultra slow motion, and the ending music switches to Cheyenne's theme for no reason)

Lol.

Btw Sergio supervised the English language version.
Unlike the Brits who mutilated the film,  the US version reflects his vision. I have read quotations where he feels it is at least a partial improvement.

I will think about it :-*

Start your search with Mickey Knox who did the English language script.
The se dvd has stuff with him.
Then go to to Frayling's book.

good luck!

If you were talking about the US cinema release International cut  or laserdisc I could understand it. That is why I asked do you mean these or the old MGM DVD or Kino.
How can you be happy with the Kino?

I am happy with the US version of app. 160 minutes.
- MGM Laserdisc
- MGM dvd (original US)
- Kino dvd and bluray
are all satisfactory to excellent.

I do not care for the extended cut as presented in any of the released versions. Either for the sound mix, the color timing or the inclusion of the grotto scene.

... and totally in a hellish yellow. But at least one flip cut is right, cause even in hell not everything gets completely wrong.

Ohh ... and I forgot, in the famous hell versions the Morricone score is of course replaced by some Rieu muzak.

I'm skeptical of your assertion since Leone laments in Simsolo's book that that 20 minutes were cut out of the US version in order to sell more popcorn.

Just for the sake of clarity - the U.S. Version IS the international cut. I think you are trying to say you don't care for the longer Italian cut or the "extended version" which is an amalgamation of the U.S./international cut and the Italian.

Also, the MGM laserdisc was the last time Sergio's original international cut was released on home video. (still missing one shot). Everything released after has had changes made (shots added/shots subtracted/hotel scene recut).

 So confusing! ???

Yes i am referring to the shorter US cut.

Interesting info about the laser.
Does this mean it is a valuable collector's item?
