OK: you all have convinced me to upgrade to the 2014 Extended Director's Cut.

Here's my situation: I have two homes, only one has a BluRay DVD player, the other has "regular DVD".  So should I get the non-BluRay version of the Extended Director's Cut, or would I be missing something from the BluRay version?  I realize that currently that the BluRay version could only be viewed at the one location.

Question 1:  I haven't seen any BluRay discs on my TV yet; is the BluRay just better quality, and worth it?  Or do BluRay discs typically have more material and extras?  Thanks, I'm pretty inept at this.  Oh yeah, I live in Arizona USA if that matters.

Question 2: Is this 2014 229 minute version the longest/most recent one available?  This article says that a 251 minute version was screened in 2014 in NY  https://nypost.com/2014/09/21/fresh-once-upon-a-time-in-america-cut-worth-every-second/  is this on DVD ?  Thanks.

Yes - BD is the way to go (come on Cusser you need to get with the times here  ;) )

The most "extended" cut available for home viewing is the one you've listed here. There are still some more scenes but they have not been released for home viewing - apparently the source material needed a lot more extra work. Hopefully one day, we will get to see that too. You should go back and read some earlier posts on this thread in that regard.

UPDATE:
I did buy the 2017 Blu-Ray, and I did watch Disc 1 today. Yes, the additional 22 minutes are of lesser quality, but I say that they added a lot to the film.

I saw this in a theater in 1985 when first released in Arizona (after the chronological version fiasco).  I think the additional 22 minutes improve the film.

I still was a little unclear about the meaning of Deborah's letter to Noodles, with her phone number.  He found this letter the following morning after meeting and taking Eve to his place.

And I assumed that Deborah had written this in advance and slipped this into his coat pocket (on the beach after the fancy restaurant?), she was gone right after the rape scene.

what letter are you talking about?

There are three types of people in the world, my friend: those who can add, and those who can't.

OK, I got it all figured out.  Noodles was drunk so was mumbling, easier to understand with the subtitles on.  I'll update this post later tonight.  Basically Noodles was calling Eve "Deborah" so note was from Eve.

OK, out of the bath with Mrs. Cusser, maybe had too much wine.

Turned on captions and re-watched that part.  Deborah at their date had told Noodles that he "was the only person I've ever cared about", and of course later in the "date" Noodles got mixed signals and raped Deborah. After that, in the added footage at a speakeasy Noodles (drunk) tells the newly-rented Eve ($500, instead of her usual $500 fee) that he wanted to call her "Deborah", and she responded "I've done more complicated things for less".

And during their time together in bed, Noodles mumbles the name "Deborah" a few times, so Eve left him that note, signed as "Deborah".  The note stated "So long and Thanks.  Next time less money and more work, I hope.  Tel. PL2-5630  Deborah".  So Eve was OK with Noodles calling her "Deborah", and wanted Noodles to call her again.  So had nothing to do with the real Deborah, except that was who Noodles was thinking of.  Next scene Noodles and Deborah are both drinking, and Noodles goes to the station to watch Deborah depart.  And I believe Deborah sees him and then pulls down the shade, to go on with her new life.

Drunk Noodles does mumble during that scene, why it's not so easy to decipher.
