I just realized something. If you look at the premise (terminally ill teacher gets into crime, realizes he's really good at it, all sort of shit hits fan) it's awfully familiar... did they rip off this movie?

I have the Kino Lorber version of this on DVD. I had to see this because of Gian Maria Volonte.  This Kino version is excellent.  It was a pretty good film. Gian surprised me with his acting range in this film.  Milian was superb as always.  My only quibble with the film was the dubbing of Gian's character. I didn't like not hearing Indio, LOL.  The Kino version has a English version and the original uncut Italian version.  Bonus material also includes a trailer to a film called " Navajo Joe".

I have to seee this again. Right now i rate it a 7 out of 10...

I feel the same about "A Bullet For A General", now for that film there is supposed to be a release with Volonte being dubbed by the same voice actor as his Leone films, but I don't have nor ever heard that version.

The Leone films were done soo well that i THOUGHT it WAS Gian's voice in A Fist Full of Dollars and For a Few Dollars More.  This was a pretty good film.  I like how Gian transformed through out the movie into a totally new character.

Didn't we figure out a while ago that American voice actor Paul Frees did the English voice for Volente, the Captain in GBU, Morton in Once/West, Boris Badenov, etc. ???  http://www.fistful-of-leone.com/forums/index.php?topic=5871.15

I went to that 2009 thread and checked the source for this on page 3 (http://www.absoluteastronomy.com/topics/Paul_Frees) and that no longer lists Frees for the spaghetti westerns, so likely was updated.  So I can believe the Bernard Grant.

I luckily picked up the Kino bluray for cheap just before it went OOP and the transfer is pretty good for spaghetti standards. Unfortunately, the longer Italian cut is in crappy SD and looks like a bad DVD.

It's hard to rate the US cut because the story is a bit rushed, and you know exactly why it's rushed. It's a nice take on Delmer Daves' Cowboy where the roles of the two main characters reverse. I may not love it as much as I did on my first view, but that probably had a lot to do with choosing the nicer looking shorter cut. B+

On a side note, Tomas Milian's fright wig was a bad choice.

Claudia, we need you to appear in LOST COMMAND. It's gonna revolutionize the war genre..
