Sadly this morning Ennio Morricone passed away. He died peacefully in a roman clinic where he was recovering from a broken leg.
He was 93.
A genius has left this world.
He will be missed, but luckily his wonderful music will live on forever. :'( :'( :'(

I'm sitting here crying :( I came back here because I knew people here would understand. My usual crowd - opera fans and gamers - are usually not into Western.

I know Ennio had been in poor health the past few years.  Ennio was amazing, scored hundreds of films, almost always got overlooked because he was Italian.  His name was inadvertently left off the titles of Once Upon a Time in America in 1984 and thus made him ineligible for an Academy Award consideration for that.  Tarentino talked him into scoring Hateful Eight, told him he'd win for that.

While westerns made up only a portion of his film score, in my opinion the score for The Good, the Bad and the Ugly is best score ever.  So many musical quotes from it appear in TV, films, and commercials, and The Ecstasy of Gold from GBU is used in Modelo beer commercials and plays at the Bellagio in Las Vegas.

I've loved his music ever since I first saw The Good The Bad and the Ugly on the late, late movie in the early 70s. I was so enamored that I begged my parents for the soundtrack for my 10th birthday...my first record album! My favorite soundtrack has always been for Duck You Sucker... so offbeat and so beautiful. My favorite current track is the amazing "wedding version" of the title track from The Big Gundown... the speeded-up "western swing" version of the familiar tune is INCREDIBLE!

RIP. I've just now voted 'Th Good The Bad and The Ugly' as his best score on IMDb. It's winning hands down.

As obits go, this one isn't bad: https://www.sensesofcinema.com/2020/feature-articles/ennio-morricone-obituary/

Not too many surprises there, except I had no idea that Ennio was such a good chess player.

To me: GBU is best use of film score in ANY film, ever.  No doubt, Morricone was a genius.

Morricone should've been buried at Sad Hill....
