Not so early Griffith. Indians attack town and the cavalry saves the day. What triggers the attack is the killing of the chieftain's son about to take two puppy dogs belonging to a pretty orphan ()Mae Marsh) to eat them.  An interesting scene is how an infant of a few months is treated by an Indian who snatches him from his dying father like it was a basketball to throw him on his shoulder It's at 17'27" on youtube.
