So what it was? I don't know. I wondered for decades about a movie with that evocative title about a P.I. but almost didn't make it to Europe. Now I understand why. This is so inept that one may suspect is a parody (see the attack under the rain with the villains dressed in black trenchcoats). I couldn't make anything of the story, I just couldn't follow it and there's just little action for a movie like this. The characters are not existent, starting from Oates himself: you know next to nothing about him at the start and at the end you have made no progress at all. The villains? Yeah, about the same. Caron? Still nice legs. Some
noir
shots toward the end and some interesting exterior of California in 1970 and interior of a train serving the area. That earns it a 3-4/10
