After gunning down the three bounty hunters at  the
beginning when he first meets Tuco,Blondie stuffs a
cigar into Tucos' mouth. Are we to beleive that Tuco
has that cigar in his mouth all the way into town ,
and only spits it out just as they reach town ?

Seems I remember later on in the movie, Tuco (and I think it was when he was tracking down Blondie from is campfires but I may be wrong) that he chews on a remaining cigar butt. I've seen people addicted to tobacco do some wierd stuff, lol. Who knows, you don't want to analize these beautiful works of art to death, lol.

I was under the impression that Tuco wasn't spitting out the cigar, but making a customary(?) "spit of disgust." Other examples of this include FoD's Silvanito spitting after Joe decides to look for a job with the Rojos...just when he had told him about Ramon's ways. Another, in FaFDM, was Prophet's reaction to trains. :)

So IMHO, I think the spitting and cigar are unrelated.

Don't you just love seeing great moments like this on DVD finally? :

when blondie sticks a cigar in your mouth it says !
leone again scores with suspention of disbeleif .

"that could be cannon fire"

"every gun makes it's own tune large one" to a small  kitten.

"you're spurs !"

there are two places where clint shifts  the cigar in his mouth. once when he puts the second slug in angle eyes finishing him off.  and once again after he shoots the noose off tuco's neck for the last time from .....how far away was he. ?  what was the name of the rifle did blondie  use to make this shoot with ?  it looked very old and very heavy making the shoot even more difficult.
how are we supposed to beieve blondie can shoot a noose off a man's neck a querter of a mile away ?
suspention of disbelief.
tuco  actually eats a cigar  blondie offers him to prove his point. he who double crosses me and leaves me alive dosn't know a thing about tuco"

I think it's just to show a way of leading into another scene. Showing Tuco with a cigar in his mouth with clint laughing with him, then next he's tied up spitting, it's a humourous scene one of the funniest in the film. Leone used to think a lot about how to lead into another seemlessly.

Hi kermit,
I also paid a bit of attention to the rifle at the end too, It was not the Henry repeating rifle with the side scope that he used before, That gun was lost long ago after their capture by the Union cavalry . This time he really used an appropriate gun for the long distance shot. I think it is a single shot Sharps Buffalo Rifle it looks to me that Leone got it right once again.  It also means that Angle Eyes was packing some heavy artillery, lol.

Showing the cigar in Tuco's mouth, and then in the next scene is called a match cut.  Also, remember that the rifle Blondie used at the end belonged to Angel Eyes, was on his saddle (Blondie didn't have a rifle when he and Tuco crossed the river).

when turning tuco in that first time is when tuco spits out the cigar. the second time  when tuco and blondie are splitting tuco's reward money blondy's stuffs a cigar in his mouth again. this time tuco bits off and swallows blondie's cigar.

just before the duel blondie requests that scince ther goannahave to earn it (the gold), he says "the gun?"  angle eyes who is packing huge pistol ( very heavy looking early navy colt w/ a very long barrel?) it's the way van cleef reholsters his wepon in a backwards motion making it look easy.

on more observation: the way they cock the hammer back on one of these big pistols after the person who dosn't respond needs to be reminded a gun is drawn on them.
ie. angle eyes to blondie: two can dig faster than one. your not diggin'.
blondie lights his cigar:
angle eyes cocks the hammer on his pistol to get his attention.

i stand corrected joe. thanx.  and tuco. (a guy who knows how to shop).

tuco would fan his pistol for rapid fire.

the speed w/ which blondie re-assembles his gun  just at the right second the retreating confederates suddenly halt their march.

blondie: "your spurs".

tuco: even judas hung himself in a storm (thunder ?)
blondie: that could be cannon fire.

tuco:"and so it's goodby blondie".......bill carson and freinds arrive just in time.

checked over @ imdb. there's a documentary on leone made in 2001. he was the son of a silent film director. his wife was a great help. morricone had a # 1 guy working under him.  "surround yourself w/ good people"
if you wish to compete. i'd sure like to get my paws on that sucker (documentary).

Actually, a good quality cigar can be chewed, as it cotains none of the chemicals found in processed cigarette tobacco. I'm not talking about the blunts regularly smoked around here! ;D

Aren't cigar's even worse than cigerette's though? That's if you inhale them that is. This is what I've read. Tuco however wasn't inhaling anything. I wouldn't think it be smart to chew it though.  ???
