I dunno, QT, that marketing pitch sounds like the one for Fistful of Dynamite, not DYS.

Yeah, Tarantino already lessened the fun watching the CORBUCCI doc, and the same thing happened with this one I suppose.
I understand they use his name for promotion, but they overdo it. LEONE doesn't need that really, his name is big enough  ;D.

Still the lack of interest here puzzles me - it's the only feature-length doc on Leone now and nobody
seems to care (?).

It will get a lot of attention once it is available to all.

I would personally find it really exciting if the Leone family or others were releashing unseen footage or other spectacular records, which may be the case to some extent. However, this documentary appears to be a homage to Sergio Leone, presumably initiated by the Leone Film Group (Leone family), by big name directors, actors etc. In that sense, it is presumably a gala tribute, for the record, to a highly talented and influential film director, 33 years after his death. I certainly look forward to seeing it.

After showing the documentary a couple of weeks ago at the Venice Film Festival 2022, the Leone Film Group announced that it will be officially released here in Italy on october 20th, 2022 to be shown in movie theaters.
I've watched an interview with Francesco Zippel, who confirmed that he was approached by Raffaella Leone who asked him to shoot this documentary on her father, after she had seen Friedkin Uncut (2018) by Zippel. He also confirmed that he had therefore access to a lot of stuff and previously unseen footage of Leone's family.
He worked in close cooperation with Raffaella, Francesca and Andrea Leone, who acted also as door opener in order to organize all the interviews with prominent actors and directors. He mentioned that for instance that Spielberg was extremely keen on being interviewed as soon as he knew that the subject was Sergio Leone.
I presume that sooner or later it will be shown on Netflix or similar.
Personally I can't wait to see it here in Italy in october.
By the way, and I know it should not be mentioned here, but I have seen Tornatore's documentary on Ennio Morricone and it is absolutely a wonderful documentary. It is available in Italy on TIMVision, but presumably it will be available soon on other networks. I've watched it already 3 times, as it is fascinating and extremely well done by Tornatore. For those of you who love Morricone as I do, an absolute must!

Can?t wait to see it. I was hoping the American Film Institute branch near me would show the Ennio documentary, but I had to import the Blu-ray from the UK instead. So I?d don?t have much hope for a theatrical release of this Leone documentary either. But I will certainly watch it as soon as I can.

On a separate note, I?m off to the AFI tomorrow to watch Samurai Rebellion in 35mm. DJ, you should be very jealous.

I'm a little jealous, but I will console myself with the Criterion DVD. Of course, a 35mm presentation of any film is always to be preferred to home video.
