How did he become a, kind of a leader, i don't know what rank, in a camp where Tuco and Blondie is brought by the yankee? You just see him, all of a sudden, in a blue dress giving orders in a camp...

angel eyes may have whacked the real sergent, who was probably  in transit to the camp,  months before, taken his uniform, then planted
himself inside the camp using the murerded sargent's ID papers.  :-\

Yes Kermit. In the novelization, which i hear was taken from the script, Angel Eyes takes the ID papers from the sergeants body at the aftermath of a battle.

I personally think it's creepier that you don't really know how he got there.  I like the fact that it was never explained.
