anyone ever read king's dark tower series?

the main character, roland, is admittedly based on sergio leone's man with no name. this series is an excellent read, especially if you're into spag westerns. the books draw much from these films and are very well written. they are actually what has gotten me back into sgw's, since i've been reading the last couple that just came out and complete the 7-book series.

the first book is called the gunslinger, and i highly recommend checking it out. if you enjoy leone, you will love these books.

and if you've never read any stephen king, just completey forget all of his movies. they are absolute crap and his writing is way better, especially in this series.

i have read roland and companies adventures. in fact i started reading them in december of 2004 and finished them in early june. the ending in the last book is a bit of a let down. but then u realize that it couldnt have ended any other way( i also like that it is open to interpretation.) i would write about the ending but i dont know if u have read that far.

i have to disagree with u that not all movies based on kings novels(u made the mistake of saying that there are his movies when they are not. they are adaptions) are bad. as a matter of fact kubricks version of "the shining" is way better then the book( and that is the first time i have ever come across that sort of thing). just chose how great a director kubrick really was. not better then leone though. LEONE IS THE MASTER.

I've been thinking about checking out this series of books; thanks for the recommendation amigos. as for none of the King-based movies being any good - THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, THE GREEN MILE, STAND BY ME (The Body)....?
