I've seen quite a few of his movies but OUATIA and Godfather II are the ones I really like the most. A Bronx Tale was also good.

He was hardly in Goodfellas and his Al Capone was kind of cheesey and one dimensional in Untouchables. But I do say, he is very lucky to have been in some of the greatest and most memorable mafia(And related) movies ever. To have worked with Leone, Coppola, Scorcese and De Palma alone is just a great achievement.

Come on, I can't believe no one's mentioned Analyze This! Analyze That would be a close second.

But in all seriousness, I'd say:

Mean Streets (awesome first appearance in a Scorsese film)
Raging Bull (aptly named)
The King Of Comedy (uncharacteristic of him)

He's pretty great in Cape Fear, too. But I haven't seen that in years, so it begs re-evaluation. I just remember him being unusually jacked and very menacing.

Nobody mentioned New York, New York? Tsk, tsk.

Here's a challenge: name a good *starring* performance by De Niro in a film OTHER THAN those made with Scorcese (and OUATIA, of course).

Godfather Part 2 easy.

 My favourite performance is OUATIA.
His best is in Raging Bull.

Loved him in BANG THE DRUM SLOWLY. Not a great movie but you can see the young DeNiro spreading his wings. I think his worst movie ever is THE LAST TYCOON. Great cast (DeNiro, Robert Mitchum, Tony Curtis, Jeanne Moreau, Jack Nicholson, Ray Milland, Donald Pleasence all directed by ELIA KAZAN with a screenplay by PINTER). Ah, so much talent wasted!  ???

Well, I said starring role. I'm pretty sure Pacino's name comes before De Niro's in GF II.....

If mooching around with a scowl on your face and not being able to act a tearful scene without looking the exact way as when happy is grounds for good acting well see me on a Monday morning then.
I know you are all acheing to kill me after going against the Gospel teachings that say De Niro must be seen as the greatest actor there is but I cannot agree, granted acting with Forsythe and Woods would make Ronald Reagan look good and hes a moody little wretch too.
A couple of good films in which he is basically the same character is the best I can say about him. Whats his recent resume Queen the musical, please.
