Great noir photography. Too bad it doesn't have a better story but, oh well, I'll probably have to get this anyway.

I found the story to be a bit lacking also.

I love this movie to bits, and I'll definitely get this blu-ray. I was quietly hoping Criterion would add more stuff to this release since its initial announcement tho... Eddie Muller has it at the #10 spot in his top 25 noirs (http://eddiemuller.com/top25noir.html), surely he'd be willing to do a commentary or something? I know we're spoiled these days with boutique labels doing stacked releases left & right and I'm stoked we're even getting this at all, but still... Anyways, first world problems ;)

Sure he would. He'd also like to get paid for the effort. Such things add to Criterion's overhead and make it more difficult for them to turn a profit. This is not a title that is going get a lot of sales.

Sure, and I'll import it anyways, one can always dream tho. Like I already said, first world problems  ;)

We've previously mentioned that T-Men, Raw Deal, and He Walked by Night have recently been released on BRD.

If you want to spend less money, and just want the films and not the bonus features, all three movies are now available on a single BRD for $19.98 https://www.amazon.com/John-Alton-Film-Noir-Collection-Blu-ray/dp/B079FLRGN4?SubscriptionId=AKIAIY4YSQJMFDJATNBA&tag=bluray-028-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=2025&creative=165953&creativeASIN=B079FLRGN4&m=

I’ve never considered this a great movie, but it would indeed be nice to see it for once in a decent print. I assume this means a BRD will be coming ...

I'm conflicted on this one. I generally appreciate nice restorations, but this film is famous for being low-budget. Further, it gained its reputation as a classic while in terrible, beat-to-hell PD print form. Some of those unintended jump cuts really sell the film as a document of seediness. I guess it would be nice to have a Blu-ray that offers both a restoration of Ulmer's "original intent" as well as a "restoration" of the work in the form it is known for.

Lincoln Center:
https://www.filmlinc.org/daily/visconti-retrospective-announced/

Here's the highlight:
Ossessione
Italy, 1943, 140m
Italian with English subtitles
Restored by Istituto Luce Cinecittà, CSC-Cineteca Nazionale and VIGGO.
Saturday, June 9, 5:15pm
Wednesday, June 13, 6:30pm

I have been waiting to see a good version of this. Hopefully, this restoration qualifies.
