Caper films are the theme this year. Unhappily, they are all ones we know very well. There is a limited number of true noirs, I guess; that limit has been reached.

All of it, or nearly all. Who wants to pay $15 a head to see these films that are readily available on home video? Not me.

And check out the French Poetic Realism Films, which were just befoee the noir period. The greatest is Port of Shadows, one of my all-time favorite films. Jean Gabin and Michele Morgan.
Also Le Jour Se Leve with Gabin. It was remade later as a noir with Henry Fonda called The Long Night. Both good films.
Also check out Jean Renoir's "La Bete Humaine," with Gabin. Remade by Fritz Lang with Glenn Ford in lead role, in a movie called HUMAN DESIRE.
And once we are discussing Lang/Ford, be sure to see The Big Heat
Enjoy
P.s. Another film I love is HOUSE OF STRANGERS. Often considered a noir, IMO it is not a noir, but whatever, it is a great movie.
Ok. I'll check these out too. Thanx...

If anywhere is showing a classic film that is readily available on home video, I tend to only want to go if they are showing an original print.

I haven't been this excited about a Criterion announcement in a long time, love this movie.
The cover art they're using is stunning IMHO:

It's only one movie each week - how about we do a discussion each week of the movie of the week?

Why wait? Most of these titles are available on discs and/or streaming. We can start talking about them now.

About the Noir Alley schedule...a lot of great films included for sure, but TCM has been showing most of them off and on for years. I'm a bit disappointed they didn't try to get some lesser-known, obscure titles. For example, there are two 1947 films that Eddie Muller's Film Noir Foundation restored and has been showing at their festivals for a couple of years. THE GUILTY and HIGH TIDE are both good Bs that many noir fans have not seen. There's also SHED NO TEARS and FALL GUY. In other words, how about something other than the same old stand-by titles.
