The kid looks like Jerry Mathers in that Desperate Hours advert.I remember seeing as a kid a Noir where the Noir Hero is a bad guy turned good at the end and the the film does take place around Christmas, but the Hero gets shot in a snowstorm and he dies outside on a set of stairs, I really remember liking it, but don't remember anything else about it though I did see it in a theater and it was B&W so it had to be late 50's early 60's. If it rings any bells give me a shout.
